ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK

“DEJAME PARTIR”

(Release Me)

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original London “Full Frequency Range Recording” (ffrr) Records very first High Fidelity Mono press released by London Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1968 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon, S.A. (Odeon Records, Chile), licensed from London Records Inc., USA, catalog number LLC-38525, with machine etched matrix number ARL-7819-4A 81 (maybe “18” depending from the side you look) SM A in Side A and ARL-7820-3A 1 6 1C SM A in Side B, with traditional green/black London “ffrr” Records labels of the period, with big boxed London “ffrr” Records logo at top. Yes, Sirs, another FIND from Chile!!!

“Release Me” is the successful debut album by Engelbert Humperdinck, originally released in May 1967 in the UK, following the success of the single “Release Me”, which was released in January 1967  and reached the number one and stayed there for 6 weeks, from March and April, and we had to wait until 1968 to see this album released here in Chile as part of the “Serie Estelar” (in English, “Stellar Series”) of Chilean Odeon Records and, like usual in the period, we got it with a UNIQUE COVER, made of a single piece of thin cardboard folded at the bottom edge, with two single sheets of paper attached, not glued, to the cardboard for front and back covers, and kept all held for an outer plastic bag, which’s also part of the cover. Front cover keeps strictly the original UK artwork and design, with the only differences that in Chile the album title is written in English, translated to Spanish, and subtitle is written in Spanish only, with London Records logo instead original UK “Decca” logo, at bottom right corner. Back cover also has the original UK design, with album title written in English and tracklist written in English, translated to Spanish, except “Ay, Ay, Ay”, written in Spanish only and “Il Mondo”, written in Italian and translated to Spanish, with full credits for music directors of each song and the liner notes by Dick Rowe, written in Spanish (in Chile, the first original line, it’s omitted), with additional information about license and London Records and “Serie Estelar” logos and catalog number at bottom right corner. In labels, the album title is written in Spanish only and tracklist is written in English only, except “Ay, Ay, Ay”, which’s written in Spanish only, with full credits for songwriters and additional information about rights society of each side and licenses. As you can see, the license in Chile comes from USA but the tracklist corresponds to the UK version. The song “Release Me” is originally credited to songwriters “Miller, Williams, Yount; Harris”, but in Chile, the credits are only for Miller, Yount and Harris, the name of Dub Williams is omitted (and, who’s “Harris”?). The song “Quiets Nights”, one of the English versions of Brazilian song “Corcovado”, originally written by Antonio Carlos Jobim, is correctly credited to Jobim, Gene Lees, who wrote the original English lyrics, and Buddy Kaye, who modified the lyrics of Lees. The song “How Near Is Love” is originally credited to songwriters Ivor Raymonde, Marcel Stellman and Richard Dix in the UK version, but in Chile it’s credited to songwriter Osmán Pérez Freire. This song is an English adaptation of the song “¡Ay, Ay, Ay!”, subtitled “Reminiscencias Cuyanas” (in English, “Reminiscences Of Cuyo”, Cuyo is an Argentinean zone), compossed by Chilean-born pianist and singer Osmán Pérez Freire in 1913, even though the oldest known recording is by the duo formed by Argentinean singers Carlos Gardel and José Razzano, with guitar accompaniment by José Ricardo, released in 1918. It’s a bit rare that in original UK and US press the name of Omán Pérez Freire is omitted, because the song was already very “famous” in the ‘60’s. So, here you have the chance to get and own this classic and successful debut album by Engelbert Humperdinck, in this MEGARARE CHILEAN VERY FIRST PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER, with Spanish-written album and song titles and with UNIQUE DIFFERENCES in credits for songwriters, a record known but maybe auctioned here in eBay by the very first time in this very first press. WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Pop and Traditional/Vocal Easy Listening music of the ‘60’s and especially for all fans, lovers and collectors of Engelbert Humperdinck!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great EX+ or even NM- condition, clean and clear, with only minimal wear in all edges, more evident in corners, with some very faint creases, minimal age browning in back cover and, as you can see, free of marks of any kind. The outer plastic bag is in EX or even EX+ condition, with some micro rips, a bit dirty in edges, but clean and with all seams intact, it has protected the fragile papers very well, and as you can see the plastic has a kind of imperfection which make it to look like “textured”. The record is in strong EX- or even EX condition both sides, glossy and clean, with some soft scuffs and light hairlines, mostly hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. The labels are in great NM or even NM+ condition both sides, clean and clear, with not even minimal spindle hole wear. The sound is in strong EX- or even EX condition, loud, clean and clear, virtually no background noise (background noise was normal in most of records pressed in Chile), with constant and mostly barely audible soft crackles and some occasional light clicks here and there, more evident in some silent parts and between tracks, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to end. Overall, this is a great record by Engelbert Humperdinck in this MEGARARE CHILEAN VERY FIRST PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER, with Spanish-written album and song titles, COMPLETE WITH THE OUTER PLASTIC BAG and with UNIQUE CREDITS for songwriters of some songs, maybe not for the strictest Minty minds or audiophiles, but for sure it’s still in a great condition, with a very nice cover and with the record still glossy, almost immaculate labels and great sound quality after about 57 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean press!!! And keep in mind this is the authentical very first Chilean press!!! What a find!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

_________________________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.

IMPORTANT UPDATE (September 2024)

Because the UK’s tax authority, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), requires eBay collect VAT information from sellers with UK customers, I’ve been informed that I need to have a “valid UK VAT number on file” to sell to UK customers. As I live in Chile and all my items are shipped from Chile, I don’t have an “UK VAT number”, so I’m sorry to inform that I’M FORCED TO EXCLUDE THE UK FROM MY WORLDWIDE SHIPPING POLICY. If you live in the UK and you’d like to bid/buy some of my records, please contact me, I’m sure we could find some solution.

If you have some doubt or question, feel free to contact us, we will be glad to answer all that you want to know about this item.
