Funk band War were formed in 1969 when the disillusioned singer of rock band The Animals, Eric Burdon, met a band called Nightshift in Los Angeles and suggested a united project. The debut album Eric Burdon Declares "War" contained "Spill The Wine", an international hit that made their name. But Burdon left the band shortly after second album The Black Man's Burdon (1970), due to exhaustion from touring. The rest of the band carried on without him. A self-titled album didn't succeed, but All Day Music (1971) did - it included two minor hits and sold over a million copies. The World Is A Ghetto (1972) did even better, topping the album chart and selling three million copies. Deliver The World (1973) sold another two million, but wasn't so well received by critics. War got back into the critics' good books with Why Can't We Be Friends? (1975), which included another hit in the title track, and "Le Freak". The group's popularity began to decline afterwards as their output slowed and the disco craze sidelined gritty funk. In the 80s and 90s, hip-hop artists such as Beastie Boys, De La Soul and Gangstarr sampled many of their songs, introducing War to a new generation of fans. A version of War continues to tour today.

MGM RECORDS SE-4710-2 ISSUE OF ERIC BURTON & WAR THE BLACK MAN'S BURTON DOUBLE LP SET -  first heard the LP from a friend who brought it back from the US just when it came out. I had to tape it asap and waited for several months until it became available in Europe. What a thrill ! Coming all together, the best blues, the best songs (and meaningful for once), the best band, the best singer ! I have many albums for which time has changed my perception, from abslute fan to reasonably enthusiastic, or less. This is (together with the previous album Eric Burdon Declares War) an abolute master piece, never fails to give me intense satisfaction and pleasure.
I also had the privilege to see them on stage in Paris in the early 70s, a 4 hours concert taking place after the "regular" show at the Olympia Theater. The musicians and the audience were so hot (and high) that the band wouldn't leave the stage. The staff cut the amps, and the concert continued for one hour all acoustic. This is also the best concert I have ever seen.

Any time I want to really get into great music I always Turn to Black Man's Burdon. After wearing out the record years ago the LP is Timeless. As a host of a Blues radio Show for 9 years, I have access to lots of music. If I had the choice of one RECORD to be stranded on an island with it would be Eric Burdon and War Black Man's Burdon. They do not make stuff like this anymore. Truly Stellar

analog vinyl pressing - the way music was meant to be heard. Out of Print forever!!

You should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Don't second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever.

WAR FANS PEACE SIGN

PEACE SIGN - Peace Sign" is a respectable return for the band after a decade of sporadic touring and recording. War's passion for social justice, lean funk and racial integration remains blessedly intact, and such cuts as 'Homeless Hero', 'East LA' and the classic title track suggest that their message is timeless and still vital. A fine AUDIOPHILE DOUBLE PIECE OF VINYL from funk's best visionairies.

The ERIC BURTON & THE Animals The Complete Animals 180 GRAM Import 3LP SET TO ROUND OUT THE ERIC BURTON COLLECTION WITH A LITTLE WAR ON THE SIDE

180g Audiophile Vinyl 3LP Set!

This triple vinyl package includes the complete sessions that The Animals recorded with producer Mickie Most in 1964 and 1965. The 40 songs capture the band at their peak, including most of their best and biggest hits: "House of the Rising Sun," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," "Bring It on Home To Me," "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place," "I'm Crying," "It's My Life," and "Boom Boom."

Many of these songs are covers of vintage R&B/rock tunes by Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and the like. The Animals produced some great album tracks, such as "I'm Mad Again" (originally by John Lee Hooker), "Worried Life Blues," and "Bury My Body."

After leaving Most, the group would maintain their peak for another year or so despite the departure of one of Rock's all-time finest organists, Alan Price. This compilation has everything that Price recorded with the group, including four previously unreleased cuts and the non-LP Eric Burdon original on the B-side of "It's My Life," "I'm Gonna Change the World."
