Recorded during Etta's two consecutive performances at Nashville's 'New Era Club" in September of 1963, this album captures Etta at her most driven and intense artistic (and performing) peak [so intense an artist, in fact, that you can still see her bandaged wrist from the unsuccessful suicide attempt a few days earlier on the front cover!] . Plus, you will hear the first-ever attempt by a blues singer to emulate the sound of a mouth harp (about ten years before Jim Morrison came to the similar idea on "Cars hiss by my window" from the L.A. Woman album). Simply one of the greatest live blues albums ever captured on tape. Cut in 1963 at the New Era Club in Nashville, the set finds Etta James in stellar shape as she forcefully delivers her own "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and "Seven Day Fool" interspersed with a diet of sizzling covers ("What'd I Say," "Sweet Little Angel," "Money," "Ooh Poo Pah Doo") ...Guitarist David T. Walker  is outstanding whenever he solos.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some  writing on its back side (please see the attached images)

-        A visible water stain affects the area about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide along the bottom seam and spine ;  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)    there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is visible.

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine and the top seam

-        Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) on the opening side

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1  (front side) and 4 (back side)

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-        Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-        Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
