Description
Gregor and his Gregorians play "Doin' the Raccoon" and "Me and the Man in the Moon" on Edison Bell Radio F414. Both sides feature terrific solos from trumpeter Philippe Brun (at his most Bixian) and reedman Edmond Cohanier. Play this for your Bix-loving friends and they will be amazed.
Philippe Brun (tp,vcl); Georges Samuels (tp); Vladimir Veintroub (tb); Rene Cizard (tb,sop, vln); Edmond Cohanier (as,cl); Lucien Veintroub (as,vln); Lucien Conti (ts,cl,vcl); Lucien Moraweck (p,arr); Michel Glod (g,bj); Nicholas "Le Tsar" Hershoff (tu); Jo Lucas (d,vcl). Recorded in Paris on May 3, 1929. According to legend, these sides were recorded in a cold theater before the recording equipment warmed up, resulting in a constricted, somewhat muddy sound quality.
This record is in V condition. On the "Raccoon" side, there is a blemish on the edge (see third picture) -- that looks like an edge chip, but isn't one -- that does not affect play. The record has an approximately one-inch crack at the edge (see last picture) that ticks unobtrusively for a few grooves only. Both labels have a little sticker residue. In spite of these flaws, the record plays well and the music is simply great.
