EVAN KEMP Aragon Christmas 78 Santa Stuck Chimney (E+)
EVAN KEMP & THE TRAIL RIDERS. Aragon AR-246 (Canadian original) Santa Got Stuck In The Chimney/My Christmas Tree.Here’s a very obscure C&W Christmas 78, recorded in Vancouver B.C. Canada, in the early fifties, for the Canadian Aragon label. The A side is an upbeat number with a self-explanatory title. The B-side is more of a C&W Xmas ballad. If you’re in the mood for experimenting, check this out. It’s pretty darned rare, especially in the condition this copy is in!

78 visually grades a gorgeous E+ (my highest grade) with very light signs of being pulled in and out of the sleeve. Looks to have had few if any plays. Nice crispy silver and red Aragon labels. Good luck adding this one to your collection.
Aragon was one of the first if not the first record label in Western Canada. The label was launched in 1947 to record some bagpipe records. Country music was where they ended up making their name though, recording artists such as Keray Regan, Buddy Reynolds, Evan Kemp, The Calgary Range Riders, The Sons Of The Saddle, Lucille Starr, The Rhythm Pals etc. They later went on to record some of Vancouver’s first rockabilly records (check out Bear Family’s Real Gone Aragon CD). If you’re at all curious about early Canadian C&W from a little independent Western Canadian label, check out this scarce and rare 78. Unless otherwise stated, 78s are carefully cleaned by hand before listing. Upon receiving, your only job will be to enjoy the music.78s come in used but nice vintage green sleeves or, when possible, original paper sleeves.
I do my spot-checking and play testing on a Technics 1200 turntable with a Stanton 500 cartridge using a standard Stanton 2.7 stylus. The amp is a mid-70s Pro-Linear with the mono switch activated. The speakers are small professional recording studio monitors (Yamaha NS 10) that are known for being overly bright – great for spotting that mild surface noise!
I ship 78s as I like to receive them - using the four-sheet 10” cardboard sandwich, foam chips, 12" x 12" x 4 "(or 6") box method.
I use standard 78 grading (E+, E, E-, V+, V, V- etc). I’ll sometimes use double plus or minus signs to really hone in on the shape.
S&H INFO:
I charge actual postage plus an extra dollar (give or take a few cents, depending on the state of the constantly fluctuating US and Canadian dollars) to help pay for packing materials.
There is no ‘handling charge’ for the time I take to properly pack your precious slab of shellac for safe travel.
