Description
Led Zeppelin II
ORIGINAL UK Lp
RED & PLUM LABELS
'PRODUCED BY JIMMY PAGE'
&
"Baldwin" credits for John Paul Jones (side 2)
CLEANED with Pro-Ject VC-S MkII Vacuum Record Cleaner and then ULTRASONICALLY cleaned.
Released in October 1969, this Lp was the follow up to the hugely successful Zeppelin I... & what an album...Being the groups very first album to reach No. 1 in both the UK and the USA.
The album production was entirely credited to Jimmy Page.
(as a little note: In November of 1999 the album was certified 12X platinum!!)
Catalogue Number: 588198 (Without the central space)
QUALITY Red & Plum label
Matrix Numbers:
Side 1: 588198 A//5
Side 2: 588198 B//4
LOVELY AND EARLY
The Vinyl:
EX+ visually.
(EX Audio)
*POWERFUL AUDIO*
BUT:
There is a slight bell warp to side 1. I noticed my needle, when on the lightest setting, did not want to play the record, but when adjusting the arm (ever-so-slightly) to a medium/light setting, I found the record played without a problem....I didn’t notice this during playback either...The record would be an easy EX(+) if this little bell warp wasn’t there. NOT visible or indeed, audible, when playing side two either.
Quality vinyl.
Being one of my favourite albums of all time-it really wasn't a chore to listen to her through at HIGH volume!!
Great sound reproduction..Deep bass and clear highs.
There are only a couple of TINY light marks to the vinyl, not feelable to the finger tip, or even to register on playback!..Nothing to make the needle jump, skip or stick, when popped on a medium/light setting.
Just some crackle evident towards the end of the last track on side 2, but nothing offensive at all.
*TURN HER UP-I DID*
WOW-Superb drums kicking in at the start-magical!
The percussion, cow bell and tambourine are superbly clean and clear on Moby Dick.
The break-down on Whole Lotta Love still gets me going :) And it is wonderfully clean and clear on this copy....And then there’s the ending of What Is And What Should Never Be-perfectly splitting the stereo output with a funky bass line...magical!
There is also a small amount of light background crackle in the break-down of Thank you, which is so often the case on this record.
I have recorded the start of side 1 to show the clear lows and clarity of this record-have a listen and also demonstrate the slight bell warp and the little, to zero effect it had on playback....I am not hiding anything here.
The Labels:
EX!

Very little wear to speak of on these iconic labels...Please see the images...WOULD FRAME INCREDIBLY WELL!
KILLING FLOOR credit.

PRODUCED BY JIMMY PAGE (ON BOTH SIDES)
Gorgeously deep in colour.
Slight blooming to the labels, which is only evident when angled towards the light.
NO WRITING.

Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)

Bring it on Home
The writing credit on Side 2 (tracks B1 - Heartbreaker and B4 - Moby Dick) are credited to “BALDWIN” - JOHN RICHARD BALDWIN, as JOHN PAUL JONES was his stage name; in addition HE IS CREDITED IN HIS STAGE NAME OF JOHN PAUL 'JONES' on side 1 for A1 Whole Lotta Love. THIS ONLY OCCURRED ON THIS RED/PLUM LABEL VARIATION as other Red/Plum label variations credited 'Jones' for all 3 tracks.
The Cover:
VG.
Original light 'CHOCOLATE' coloured GATEFOLD cover with just some storage wear to her-Please see the pictures provided.
These covers are notorious for ring wear, which does show, albeit lightly, to the back panel on this copy. ...Please see the detailed images provided. There is a small 3cm section where the spine has just broken through on the outside-nothing to see on the inside. As well as a fine split to the top of the back panel.
States "Lemon Song" in the sleeve track listing...This was never changed.
Rubbing to the spine-as you can see in the detailed images provided.
NO WRITING
"Sleeve printed and made in England by EJ DAY & Co, London W11"
Also has the earliest "UPTIGHTAN' OUTASIGHT" text, showing this to be the very 1st sleeve.
THE EARLIEST PRINTING CREDIT HERE.
STILL REMAINS SOLID AND IS THE EARLIEST YOU COULD HOPE FOR WITH THE LIGHT CHOCOLATE COLOURING..
The Inner:
EX+
It is THE ORIGINAL “PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS” double windowed inner with just some age discolouration-a bit like me!
But no splits or writing.
THIS BABY WOULD PUT A VERY LARGE SMILE ON ANY ROCK FAN :)
(It did for me)
THE COLLECTABLE RED & PLUM LABELS -ALL HOUSED IN A SOLID CHOCOLATE GATEFOLD SLEEVE....
FANTASTIC AUDIO BLASTS OUT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE ALBUM.
IN SUMMARY-THE AUDIO IS GREAT, THE COVER HAS SOME LIGHT HANDLING WEAR AND THERE IS A SLIGHT BELL WARP TO SIDE 1-BUT STILL BLASTS OUT WITH CLARITY!
