EXCITING LLOYD PRICE UK HMV RED/GOLD 1st CLEAN ISSUE Rock and Roll
The Exciting Lloyd Price.
Original 1959 UK pressed EMI HMV mono LP, CLP 1285.
Earliest heavy duty pressing with deep maroon and gold labels and 1N/1N matrix suffixes
A generally unusually well preserved LP for vintage. Spider trail marks around the spindle areas indicates just a few plays and the labels are clean and undefaced. The playing surfaces still have a high gloss. Close inspection with a magnifying glass reveals some very fine hairlines and light scuffs but no deep marks or scratches.
Playback is a solid VG plus. Some light crackle heard at separator bands but this pretty much obscured during the tracks. No ticks or clicks and the sound is bright, clean and free of distortion.
Note that before play testing the LP I gave it a cursory wipe with a slightly dampened cleaning cloth. Although the LP was not overly grubby it did display some dusting and is after all well over fifty years old. After playback I did notice a few specks of debris dislodged by the stylus and can only speculate that there is room for further improvement in the sound quality with a more thorough cleaning.
Inner sleeve is original heavy duty poly-lined "Emitex" and in close to EX condition although with a touch of age spotting and a couple of minor tan marks.
External sleeve in at least VG plus condition. The laminated front panel is very clean and bright still with no laminate peel, and the rear foldover flaps are undamaged and still nice and white. The matt rear panel has sustained some overall age and handling toning but remains clean and free of marks.
Edges are well preserved. One or two very small isolated areas of chipping but no heavy scuffs and spine is intact and with perfectly legible print. A small and neat approx. half inch split to entry side at bottom right and top side has an absolutely fractional touch of wear and splitting. The entry side is crisp and unfeathered. Tips still have good square shape with just fractional wear, but no rounding or softening.
All in all a very nicely preserved example of this classic early UK LP however.
