Record Grading
Please ensure that you read the grading criteria listed below to guarantee that the record you’re purchasing meets the level of quality you’re looking for. Records are mostly listened to the whole way through in grading, but those that are not will still be tested for at least one entire track on both sides to check for sound quality. (If purchasing a double LP or collection, this applies to all records contained within the item/order). This means that there may, in rare circumstances, be unnoticed skips or pops at some point which alter the item’s grading. In the unlikely event that you do notice this, please contact me as soon as possible with the details of the problem and I’ll be sure to sort the issue out for you.
As a collector myself, I understand that it is disappointing to receive a dirty record that has to be cleaned. Because of this, all records I sell are cleaned prior to dispatch.
New
All records listed as ‘new’ will be sealed and unused.
Used
All used records will be graded under the following classifications, and may have additional notes in the item description that buyers should pay attention to alongside the grading if this is the case. For example, a record which is graded as ‘Good’ may fall short of ‘Very Good’ based on a single fault, such as one skip at the beginning of the record. These are marked with an asterisk (*) in the title to refer you to the item description, and will appear as ‘VG*’ or ‘EX*’, for example.
Mint (M)
Opened, but in original condition. Possibly played once or twice, if not brand new and unused.
Near Mint (NM)
Close to mint, but minor detractions in visual or audial quality that are negligible.
Excellent (EX)
Minor signs of handling, such as slight creases or wear that are only noticeable upon close inspection. Record plays perfectly despite minor crackle or pops that are only noticeable during quieter or silent passages.
Very Good (VG)
Fair signs of wear, but nothing that degrades the functional use of it (i.e. no splits, and no tears that ruin the artwork or track listing). Record plays well with significant noise – possibly even a few pops – but this does not affect the overall listening experience and does not overpower the music except for during quieter passages. Small scratches may be present upon close inspection or under lighting, but are otherwise not prominent.
Good (G)
Substantial wear and tear, but sleeve is still functional. Parts of the artwork or track listing may be ruined by dirt, wear and tear, or sticker removal. May also have seam splits or tears that do not affect the usability of the sleeve. Record has significant noise, and may skip at one point, but is still listenable. Scratches may be easily seen even without good lighting, and may affect listening quality.
Fair (F)
Heavy signs of wear, including seam splits and tears that affect the functional use of the sleeve. Artwork may be ruined. Still playable, but not good quality. Records may have distortion or issues with stereo play. Likely full of scratches and skips, and significant levels of crackling and popping that overpower the music strongly.
Bad (B)
Sleeve is completely ruined and may not even hold the record. Record is practicably unplayable or, at best, unlistenable.
Record Only (RO)
Record comes without a sleeve (or without original sleeve).
Sleeve Only (SO)
Sleeve of the record only with no record.
