Rare ca. 1928 recordings of West African instrumentals. See the photo of the group
(not included in this auction). The record comes from the collection of Charles Wolf,
a French pioneer aviator who fought in airplanes during WW I. Between the two
World Wars and later, he first flew in the Maghreb and then in Africa South of the Sahara
and built up an important collection of ethnographical artifacts.
Although the photo of the group shows string instruments and a hand drum only,
I also hear a balafon on one side, if I am not mistaken.
Check out the internet for more information and a CD of this group. The CD says,
"1929", but in fact their recordings were made between 1927 and 1929 - in London.

We spot check every record on semi-professional equipment with a 3.0 mil spherical
needle, using no noise reduction for grading.
Grading scale for 78s according to VJM standards: N- E+ E E- VG+ VG VG- G+

No packing charges. We sandwich your discs between several squares of stiff corrugated
cardboard, then use bubble wrap around and pack inside a sturdy record mailing box with
more padding material for safe transport.
