Description

Here's a rare gospel 78 by Eddie Head And Family. It was recorded on April 22, 1930, in Atlanta, Georgia, with Eddie Head and family singing "Down On Me" and "Lord I'm the True Vine" to tambourine and guitar accompaniment. These performances are transcendent! It was issued by Columbia as 14548-D; beneath that number on each side is another number in parenthesis, 194915/6. A note in the Dixon and Godrich "Blues and Gospel Records" book explains, "These sides were remastered by the Columbia engineers on 13/15 May 1930 and assigned the 194900 numbers." Eddie Head recorded only one other 78, on the same day as these sides. This 78 record is completely intact and has a lot of shine and just light surface wear. I place it in the E range. (Satisfaction guaranteed! Please check out my feedback.) ***** Please see my other auctions! I am currently auctioning 78s by Yank Rachell, Tampa Red & Georgia Tom, Sara Martin with Sylvester Weaver (one of the earliest blues guitar records), Blind Boy Fuller, the Washboard Rhythm Kings, and others, as well as some small-label postwar blues.
