Description

Edison Diamond Disc 50423 Collins & Harlan That Funny Jas Band From Dixieland / When You Hear Jackson Moan on His Saxophone
Reputed to be the first record to use the word Jas (Jazz) I believe this disc came out in 1916.
'Jas' side shows more wear than the 'Jackson' side. I'd grade the Jas side as G and the Jackson as G+/VG
Edison Diamond discs are vertical cut, also known as hill and dale recordings. They will not play on a phonograph that plays the usual lateral cut recordings, which are the norm. Technically these discs CAN be played using a stereo cartridge, which goes laterally AND vertically, but I have not had success with this method. Thus all the Edison discs I have for sale have not been played. All grading is visual only. Also being about a quarter of an inch thick, they are considerably heavier than regular 78s, hence the higher shipping rates quoted.

II have a lot of Rock and Roll, R & B, Jazz and Country LPs for sale, many at low prices. I do combine shipping so take a look! 50 cents extra for each additional LP. I ship USPS Media Mail, but do charge an additional $1.25 for packaging for LPs and 45s. Because of the fragility of 78s, the packaging charge is increased to $2.50, and then an extra 50 cents per record.  We’ve all been spoiled with free delivery from various retailers over the past few year, and I wish I could offer free shipping! But I can’t. Even Media Mail is becoming expensive. The mailers and bubble wrap I use come out at close to a buck for each shipment, and then there is the schlepping to the Post Office. I ain’t getting rich!
I do pack carefully, but cannot be responsible for damage incurred during shipping. It is the buyers responsibility to ask for insurance. If it is a valuable record, I suggest you ask for insurance. It should be noted that one cannot insure items sent via Media Mail, therefore when wanting insurance, expect a higher postage rate. Issues such as this can be discussed between buyer and seller before paying the invoice. Don’t hesitate to contact me!
