Description
Collectors, here is Edison Diamond Disc record #52507, circa early 1929. Pop Collins and His Boys (organ, fiddle, guitar) perform two sad country tunes: "Pappy's Buried on the Hill" and "I'd Like to Send a Message up to Mother". The songs were recorded on January 16, 1929, and were also issued on the new "needle cut" records. Mr. Collins isn't much of a singer, but you may like these songs. As far as I can tell, neither song was issued as a Blue Amberol cylinder. The record plays well with fairly limited surface noise. There are no edge chips, and the labels are firmly attached to the record.
The highest Diamond Disc number issued was 52651, so this record came out a few months before the end of production! The number of copies made of each record was low, and existing copies either had to be bought in 1929, or saved by jobbers and dealers. It's unknown how many are still around 90+ years later, but surely the answer is "not many". If this is what you like, do not pass it up, reasonable buy it now price given what I have here, go for it!
