Description
Elizabeth - S/T
(Vanguard SVRL19010 1968 UK LP)
Now then, here’s a very very rare one, over the years I’ve had numerous American copies of this album, I’ve also had a few German pressings but in 30 years of collecting records this is only the second UK copy of this album I’ve seen (the other copy is sitting very comfortably in my own collection - and staying there!). Very strong US psych rock with quite a diverse ornate sound ranging from almost folky psych to a much heavier sound with good guitar, a nice organ sound and double tracked vocals, all together a highly enjoyable album which could be filed nicely alongside your United States Of America or West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band albums, nice collage style sleeve too.
Tracks:
Not That Kind Of Guy
Mary Anne
Dissimilitude
Similitude
You Should Be More Careful
The World’s For Free
Fields Of Home
Alarm Rings Five
Lady L
When All Else Fails
Condition: VG+/EX
Sleeve:
Like most UK vanguard albums of the era this is a good quality standard single sleeve, fully laminated sleeve, no manufacturers name is given.
The front sleeve is in fine condition, it’s extremely clean with no writing or tears anywhere. The only real flaws are several small creases coming in from the spine, several of these have started to crack the laminate but they are very small and the complicated collage desing of the sleeve makes them hard to spot, there’s a tiny tiny patch of wear right in the bottom right corner which again isn’t readily apparent because of the design. The laminate is clear and has a nice shine with no blistering or lifting.
The rear sleeve is also in fine condition, it’s extremely clean with no tears or writing anywhere. Those little creases coming in from the spine are more visible than on the front as they’re on a black border but none of them lasts further than the border.
The spine is slightly compressed and those creases have cracked the lamination in several places but it is clean and all of the writing is clearly readable.
The top seam is totally unworn.
The bottom seam is also totally unworn.
Record:
The record is in very very nice shape indeed, I’ve graded it as EX but really this pushing M-. It’s good quality late sixties vinyl which is heavy and thick and extremely clean with a good dark shine to the vinyl. Under normal light it looks great with no visible surface marks at all, when held under a very harsh lamp the odd very light little hairline mark is revealed but these are extremely light and totally inaudible, it would be highly unusual to get a record of this age without any of those marks.
The two labels are in great condition, very clean with no writing, tears or stickers anyhere and very little discernible spndle wear. The matrix numbers stamped into the dead wax are SVRL 19010 1Y/1 and 2Y/1.
When played the record sounds great, it’s obviously been played very sparingly by previous owners and they’ve taken good care of it when it has been out of the sleeve. It’s extremely clean and the sound reflects this with a good clean clear sound right across the full dynamic range which highlights the diversity of the music well. There is none of the usual groovewear or distortion which is usually prevalent on records of this age and no surface noise at all throughout the entire record, even between tracks sounds as silent as you could wish for, this album has been a favourite of mine for a long time now and to listen to this copy was something I really enjoyed.
