Here we have a superb very 1st pressing of the psyche classic Elmer Gantrys Velvet Opera!
Wow, what an album. This is another (almost) lost sixties treasure. What is most resonant is the amount of variety on the album, and yet it still all works as a complete whole. You get the opening Hendrix influenced 'Intro/ Mother Writes', the catchy pop psyche of 'Mary Jane', jazz-blues with a humorous cover of 'I was Cool', a superb instrumental in 'Walter Sly', hippy rock with 'Air' and mod with the Motown sounding 'Looking For A Happy Life'
It was pressed by Direction records on the iconic black and yellow label and housed in a front laminated Upton outer!!
This record only came in Stereo and this is the very very earliest with
and A1/B2 matrix!!
This record hardly ever comes up for sale so grab it while you can!!

Outer Sleeve
The beautiful 1st press Upton Printing pressed outer sleeve is in really nice condition! There are no rips, tears, or writing to speak of!! The sleeve sits nice and flat and the edges are still nice and sharp with only some shelf wear to the corners. The front laminate has some handling creases and the colours are still vibrant and fresh!! The rear has some discolouring . The spine is still nice and straight and all the text is perfectly readable!! Very Good ++
Labels
The wonderful 1st press yellow and black Direction labels are in splendid condition, with no rips, tears, stains or writing. There is no centre hole damage at all. Under a strong halogen, few invisible spindles appear and it’s clear to see this record has been looked after!

Inner Sleeve
The plain white original inner sleeve is in lovely condition with no rips, or tears. Just some mild folding to mention!! Excellent
Vinyl Visual
The record looks to be in great condition. Under a strong light, some of the faintest of hairlines can be seen, that has absolutely no effect on playback and cannot be felt. There is no warping whatsoever; it still retains its factory shine and lustre!! Excellent
Vinyl Audio
. The record played through sublimely! There were no skips or jumps at all. There was no distortion at all. It’s a nice clear and punchy audio with only some minor crackle between tracks!! The sound is punchy and driven!! A superb sounding record!! Excellent
Overall
So there we have it, a superb clean copy of one of the rarest 60s records of all time!!
