Description

Elvis' Special 45 rpm Gold Vinyl Release from RCA. (PB-13875).  I am offering 25 in the original box that they came in. RCA always released 25 singles to a box.  As you can see in the photos, this was an RCA release of Elvis' live recordings at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair & Dairy Show in Tupelo, Mississippi on September 26, 1956.  The records and sleeves are mint.

This was actual a recording that RCA was pre-releasing for the forthcoming multiple record package: Elvis Presley A Golden Celebration.  RCA has released very few live Elvis recordings before and had intentions of releasing this worldwide, but stopped pressing after 16,000 were pressed. I was told from RCA that it probably would not go gold and had decided to scrap the plan to release it in U.S., and/or worldwide and take chances on the multiple LP package, A Golden Celebration, of selling into the millions, which of course, did.  RCA also did not like the quality of the live recording. Of course, back in 1956, the quality of live performances were not like today's digital recordings.

So RCA actually released this beautiful gold vinyl disc in Tupelo, MS and Memphis, TN only. Live recordings of Elvis doing Hound Dog and Baby, Let's Play House. The label is a darker gold and has Elvis 50th Anniversary stamped on it.

After the release in Tupelo and Memphis in 1984, RCA executives immediately decided to collect back what they could.  They did get back about 4,000 of these beauties and destroyed them. So, that meant only 12,000 were available to millions of Elvis fans.  Prior to RCA coming back to Memphis and Tupelo to collect the rest of the ones that were not in the hands of fans already, a friend of mine gave me a heads-up what was going to happen.  So, I hurried back to Tupelo and Memphis to purchase several boxes prior to RCA getting their hands of this rarity.

At one time, these were being sold by Graceland and the previous owner of Graceland Crossing (Mr. Tubbs) for $19.95 each. I traded a few hundred to Mr. Tubbs a few times prior to his death.  There were a few promos pressed of this gold vinyl 45 that were going much higher, between $100 to $125 or more.

This Elvis collectible was the idea of the late RCA Executive Producer, Joan Deary.  Joan, a great Elvis fan herself also put out the rare Tupelo record in 1982 with a white sleeve, which I am currently selling on ebay. Joan did give some Fan Club Presidents copies of the actual promo 45.  This is not the promo 45! Many collectors think that this was a promo, but it was not.  The actual promo had two separate matrix numbers and had markings of a promo. The same sleeve was used for both regular pressing and promo pressing. Only 350 promos were pressed.

The sleeve is beautiful and shows Elvis with the Jordanaires and Scotty Moore with the band on the front cover. Elvis' is on stage at the fair in Tupelo, MS.  If you look close enough amongst the crowd in front of Elvis, you can also see a picture of a woman in the back to the left of the sleeve with her hand over her eyes, shading the sun from her eyes so she could see the crowd and Elvis on stage. She is wearing a white blouse.  That person is another great Elvis fan and friend, the late Janelle McComb.

Janelle, and her late husband Roy, were personal friends of mine and the Presley family, Col. Parker, RCA, and thousands of Elvis fans.  Janelle had great stories from Tupelo, MS.  Janelle and Roy also are the reason that the Elvis Presley's Birthplace, Park, Museum and Chapel exist today in Tupelo, MS. Janelle passed away about two years ago and Roy passed away March, 2007.  I do remember Janelle telling me that she was actually looking for the Mayor of Tupelo to give him some cigars that she had bought for him. And that was the reason her hand was over her eyes to shade the sun.

The reason I purchased so many of this Elvis collectible 45s, was because I wanted the Elvis fans throughout the world to receive this record prior to it being destroyed by RCA.  I sent about 2,000 over to Great Britain Fan Club over the many years and hundreds more to other fans throughout the United States and throughout other parts of the world.  I do have some boxes left, and have decided to sell a few on ebay.

The buyer will be responsible for insurance and actual cost of shipping. There is a reserve. All records are mint and never been played.

Cost of S&H in United States is $15.00. Insurance is $3.00. Overseas shipping is $38.00.
