Description

Last week it was the Beatles

This week The King gets his due

To put it mildly, Mom was a big Elvis fan. And to be honest, my brothers and I were, too. Dad, on the other hand...preferred listening to Lawrence Welk. But that’s another story.

Anyway, as we were going through the old household, reminiscing (and cleaning out), we discovered a nice assortment of Elvis records. And upon further inspection, we realized that these weren’t plain old 45rpm singles. These were EPs! Little mini-albums, with 4-6 songs on each. And not only that, no paper sleeves here, folks. These have the cardboard Picture Sleeves. One thing that’s really nice about the cardboard sleeves is that they hold up quite a bit better than thin paper sleeves, as you can see in the pictures. Yes, they fade a little over time, but they’re less likely to tear or wear out along the edges.

Now, if you saw my auction for the Beatles 45s last week, the following will look very familiar. The info still holds true for these Elvis records, so be sure you understand where I’m coming from. The fact is, I’m not a collector, so I’m not an expert in the grading system. And even if I were, collectors know that one person’s NM is another’s VG. I’ll also remind you that I have no turntable and thus, no way of checking the actual playability of the vinyl, so bear that in mind as well. However, as with the Beatles records, I’ve looked through them and have attempted to describe what I feel are the major flaws. Here’s a link to a list with my comments on these Elvis records.

And since the scans seemed to be very helpful for bidders checking out the Beatles records, it only made sense to do it again with Elvis, so here’s a gallery of the Elvis picture sleeves. Again, while I didn’t bother scanning the vinyl, I did note the condition of the vinyl and inside label in my list. You’ll also notice that I didn’t list all the song titles on that list, but you can easily read exactly what’s on the records in the scans of the sleeves.

Just a reminder that in order to avoid having to deal with listing and shipping these records individually, I will sell these only as a lot. Please don’t ask me to sell you just one or two. Once it’s part of this auction, I really couldn’t remove one anyway. As I said last time, look at the positive side; you could win the one you want and then perhaps make that money back and more by listing the rest of them yourself.

Now, the bonus 45s. For some reason we have two copies of the single Clean Up Your Own Back Yard/The Fair Is Moving On.

Also, there is the very cool German version of Wooden Heart/Tonight’s All Right For Love (from the movie G.I. Blues). Sadly, the PS is a little less that great on this, but the vinyl looks quite nice.

And finally, there’s one which RCA calls a Compact 33 Double. It’s a 7 inch, 33 1/3 rpm record called Elvis By Request. This one has four songs from his movie “Flaming Star”.

I’ve included scans of these picture sleeves along with those of the EPs, and I’ll include these records in the lot for the winning bidder.

Shipping: I will ship to U.S. locations by USPS Media Mail, Parcel Post or Priority Mail, whichever the winning bidder chooses to pay for. Please use the shipping calculator below to determine shipping costs to destinations in the U.S. only. I prefer to ship within the U.S. only, but because there is an active overseas market for old 45s, I will consider shipping internationally with the winning bidder responsible for any and all additional shipping costs. I will be open to suggestion as to the best way to ship internationally.

Preferred payment method is U.S. Postal Money Order. I do accept Paypal, but because I have two accounts, if you are the winning bidder please contact me before you pay so I can let you know which account to use. I will consider a personal check but I reserve the right to delay shipment until your check clears my bank.

If you have any questions about the auction, shipping or payment methods, please email me prior to the end of the auction.

Remember, there's no reserve on this auction, so good luck!

Thanks for looking, and be sure to check out the links above to see the list and the close-up pictures. Good luck!

Oops. I just noticed upon closer inspection that on the Elvis By Request compact double (Flaming Star), there are check marks on the back of the cover where it looks like Mom was keeping track of what she had. Also, on that same cover, the top left corner on the back is beginning to peel a bit, which you really can't tell in the gallery picture.

I didn't want to change the description in the .pdf list, in case someone had already downloaded it. Thanks.

So sorry. It appears my hosting is down. I have uploaded the gallery and the .pdf list to another server. Please try these links. Again, I apologize.
