Further Details
Picture sleeves were created and released in April 1964 for a few of the Gold Standard Series reissues of Elvis singles. This sleeve rates as a high end VG+ with some ring wear as is common to these picture sleeves. It is milder than most, however, and does not cause too much distraction. It has no seam splits, or staples, or wrinkles and presents very well. Some might rate it as VG++.
The record is excellent (NM), and has the Dog on Side Gold Standard Series label from 1965.
Items of Note
Every time I think of the song “Hound Dog” I think of how failures are the stepping stone to success. Elvis first performed in Las Vegas in 1956 from April 23 to May 3. By all accounts, it was NOT a big success. Las Vegas had an older audience and was not yet ready for Rock ‘n Roll. I, on the other hand, view things slightly differently and believe that engagement was extremely successful. It was during this stay in Las Vegas that Elvis heard Freddie Bell & the Bellboys sing their version of Big Mama Thorton’s 1952 song “Hound Dog.” Elvis liked the song and decided to put it in his show. And the rest, as they say, is history. So, although Elvis’ first appearance in Las Vegas has historically been seen as a failure, I say it was a HUGE success!
Another interesting side story about the song “Hound Dog” involves the song’s writers Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller. Stoller was returning from his honeymoon in Europe on the ship Andrea Doria when it sank on July 25, 1956. When he arrived in New York with other survivors, he was greeted by Lieber who told him their song “Hound Dog” was number one. Stoller was surprised and asked “Big Mama Thorton?” Lieber replied “No, somebody named Elvis Presley”. They didn’t know who that was, but were happy to have a hit record.

A Little About Me
I first became an Elvis fan in the fall of 1976 and received my first Elvis record for Christmas that year (from my uncle – it was a tan label “Live at Madison Square Garden” because my uncle liked the song “Never Been to Spain”). I am selling some of the records from my collection in hopes that they may bring as much joy to other Elvis fans and collectors as they have to me.
Packaging & Shipping
All records are shipped via media mail in cardboard record mailers designed specifically to ship records safely and securely. Records will be shipped outside their covers to prevent any potential seam splits from developing in transit.
I will gladly combine shipping for multiple wins. In that case, please wait for an invoice before paying.
