Elvis: G.I. Blues - 1960 StereoTape Cartridge KPS-3130

From 1960, G.I. Blues (RCA Victor KPS-3130) by Elvis Presley with The Jordanaires. Includes original box.
This is an RCA Stereotape Cartridge - “For Easy Magazine Loading”. This is standard 4-track 1/4” reel-to-reel tape, recorded at 3 3/4 ips. The tape cartridge measures approximately 7” x 5” x 1/2”. It operates the same as a modern cassette (an A-Side and a B-Side). There is a brake system to prevent the reels from turning when the tape is removed from the player. And, there are two notches in the top, just like on modern cassettes, to prevent over-recording.
Comes in a hinged cardboard box.
This short-lived format, introduced in 1958, was the industry’s first commercial attempt at putting tape machines into the homes of people who, for one reason or another, were unwilling to go the conventional reel-to-reel route.
Alas, we immediately rejected this new device as well, and it exists today as barely a rumor.
I’m not sure how many Elvis titles were issued in this format, but I do know of at least one other: Elvis is Back. That auction ends November 27th.
I do have a machine (RCA Victor/Victrola Stereotape Model SCP-2), but it is currently not working.

The tape cartridge, while not perfect, still appears to be in excellent condition. Completely intact with no cracks. The tape is tight, the brake works and the reels operate smoothly. There is nothing to indicate that this tape cartridge is not in good, working condition. The original cardboard box is dirty and shows age-related wear and discoloration. There are a couple of pen marks on the front and some staining on the back. The hinge is fully intact and there are no split corners. There is a small tear at the thumb-notch (see photo below).
