Description
Elvis Presley LPM-1254 (1956)
VERY FIRST pressing from 1956 with original "LONG PLAY" labels and light pink lettering cover. Side 1's matrix number ends in -3S and Side 2's ends in -1S. This is the earliest pressing of this LP I've found (I don't believe there was a version with -1S matrix numbers on both sides). The mother codes are A2 for Side 1 and B2 for Side 2.
Side 1's label has the super rare misprint for the composing credits of "Just Because." When RCA first began pressing this LP, they either thought this song was Public Domain or just didn't bother discovering who actually wrote it. Therefore the first batch of records have this track listed with P.D. as the composer. This was very quickly corrected and all subsequent pressings have the actual composers listed on the label. I can't stress how hard these are to come by.
Cover is VG++
No writing or ringwear. Spine is completely intact and readable. Bottom seam is solid, but the top seam is split 3 or 4 inches. The back is slightly discolored, but nothing major. For a 50 year old jacket, this is really really nice.
Vinyl is VG+
Superficial surface marks only, as far as I can see. No deep scratches or gouges. Quite a few spindle trails indicate this was played often, but handled carefully. Still has a nice shine to it.
I'm selling off a large portion of my Elvis collection, including copies of every LP he released from 1956 -1964 (all on the original "dog on top" labels with RCA VICTOR in silver print). This includes all the "LONG PLAY" label mono copies through "Elvis Is Back" and "LIVING STEREO" label copies of his next 7 LPs. Many of them have matrix numbers ending in -1S (meaning they were from the first batch ever made).
1st pressing records from the late 50s/early 60s are getting so hard to come by in any condition and these will only increase in value ... they're a great investment and a great Christmas present for any Elvis fan, whether they have a turntable or not. Owning an original Elvis LP is owning a piece of rock 'n' roll history.

Grading
Everyone on ebay seems to have a different grading scale these days, so let me explain how I grade in detail.
NM : the best grade an opened (used) record can receive. Virtually flawless.
NM- : nearly perfect. Might be a tiny bit of superficial wear.
VG++ : excellent condition. Superficial wear only.
VG+ : above average condition. Moderate superficial wear. Used, but not abused.
VG : average condition. Either a lot of superficial wear or one or two more serious issues.
VG- : Very noticeable superficial wear and most likely several more serious issues.
G : Pretty well trashed from a collector's standpoint, but should still be playable for the casual listener.
All grading is VISUAL. Not only do I not have time to listen to every record I'm listing in it's entirety, play-grading is far too subjective. What sounds terrible to me on my stereo system might sound perfectly fine to you on yours and vice versa. It all depends on whether you're using a conical or elliptical stylus, how many grams of pressure you're using, whether you'll be listening through large speakers or headphones, etc etc. Too many variables. If you have any specfic questions, I will try to answer them in greater detail.
