Elvis Presley White Label Promo 45 w Picture Sleeve Milky White Way and Swing Low Sweet Chariot
Up for sale is a 45 rpm record with picture sleeve by the great Elvis Presley - "Milky White Way" b/w "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". This is a White Label Promo on the RCA Victor record label. A White Label Promo (WLP), in case you don't know, is a special pressing of a record that is sent to Disc Jockeys, Record Industry employees, and salesmen to help promote a record's release. They are usually MUCH rarer than stock (standard) copies of records and are therefore very desirable among collectors. This record features the distinctive black-on-white design used with WLPs.
This record features the classic "Milky White Way" song as the A-side. This is an excellent rendition of a spiritual, and on the flip is a version of the timeless "Swing Down Sweet Chariot". This single did not chart at all upon its release in 1966, making this one of the RAREST of Elvis singles and almost impossible to find. Even if you do ever find a copy of this record, it almost never has the picture sleeve intact. I'm happy to announce that this record still has the original picture sleeve. This is also as previously mentioned a WLP, further adding to the rarity of this item. It is in stunning condition as well (as you'll see further down). For many reasons this is quite simply the best copy of this record that you can find. It is a must for any Elvis fan or collector, rock 'n' roll fan, or gospel/spiritual lover.
The picture sleeve looks like it was printed yesterday - the colors and paper are bright, crisp, and unfaded, and there are no seam splits. Only the most minor signs of wear are present - a small wrinkle here and there, but nothing glaring or obvious. Ringwear is almost non-existent - only the slightest signs exist that a record is housed in it. Everything is shown in the photos - have a look for yourself. The words "No 76" were written by the Disc Jockey to the right of Elvis' face on the front cover. This is not graffiti or doodling - it was made by the DJ to denote this record's position in the radio station archive, and only adds to the history of this record. The sleeve simply looks so nice and has no other major defects besides the writing - overall, I grade the sleeve a Near Mint Minus (NM-). Again, have a look at the photos and decide for yourself. It looks great and would be perfect for framing.
The vinyl is in stunning NM- condition. It has only a few light scuffs, and has no scratches that I can see or feel. Both sides of this record play PERFECT without ANY skips, jumps, or loud pops. This record was wonderfully pressed and boasts a vibrant, full-bodied sound. It feels like you are right there in the studio with Elvis. It is definitely one of the best-sounding records I own - I wish all of my records sounded this good! Have a listen to the unaltered sound sample below to hear what it is like. What you hear is what you get! Again, I grade conservatively and hesitate to give records a perfect NM or Mint rating, so combining the visual and play grade I rate this as NM-. This record is as good as it gets. The labels are in great condition as well; the number 76 is written in pen on side two, but it is unobtrusive, and as stated earlier, made by the DJ. If you've been looking for the perfect copy of this record, this is it - you may not have another chance to pick up this record in such great shape.
