Description
Blue Hawaii is Elvis Presley’s fourth soundtrack album, released by RCA Victor on October 20, 1961. The album, which serves as the soundtrack to Presley’s 1961 film of the same name, became one of his most commercially successful releases. In the United States, it dominated the charts, spending 20 weeks at number one and remaining in the Top 10 for 39 weeks on Billboard’s Top Pop LPs chart. Certified Gold in December 1961, it was later awarded Platinum, 2× Platinum, and 3× Platinum certifications by the RIAA in subsequent decades.
In the UK, the album also performed well, spending 18 weeks at number one on the Record Retailers chart. With its immense success, Blue Hawaii became the second most successful soundtrack album of the 1960s, only behind the soundtrack for West Side Story on the U.S. Top Pop Albums chart.
