ELVIS PRESLEY – “ELVIS’ CHRISTMAS ALBUM” (LPM-1951) – RARE “MONO” HOLLYWOOD PRESSING From 1963-64

RECORD:  VG+ with full original gloss and on the high end of the grade. If I had to grade this vinyl on just Side 1, it would grade VG++ (EXC), but there are more surface scuffs on Side 2, which keeps this record at VG+. There is one surface scratch that runs across Tracks 4 & 5 and into track 6 on Side 2 that I felt was suspect. I play-tested those three tracks and the scratch does result in a moderate “tick” with each revolution, but definitely no skips or repeats. Track 6 seemed unaffected and played great, as should the remainder of this record. The labels on this Hollywood pressing are beautiful, with just a couple light spindle marks noticed. I really don’t like to throw around the word “rare” as we see it so regularly on this site, that we’ve all become numb to the word. This record is an exception and without hesitation, I will call this one RARE. In fact, ANY 1963-64 Elvis LP with all Silver print that shows either “MONO” or “STEREO” at the base of the labels fits into that same “RARE” category. They were produced for a very short time and so few escaped harsh treatment. They are several times more scarce than the First Pressings of the same title! This album is the Second Pressing of the title and the “rarest” of all LPM-1951’s. The matrix numbers on this record end with 10S/13S.

COVER: NM- with just very light ring wear. The spine as well as the upper & lower edges are all smooth and consistent. There is some light corner wear, but a bit more noticeable to the lower right corner tip. There are absolutely no bends or creases anywhere on this cover, nor tape, writing or staple holes. This rare album will fit nicely in a collection of high-end Elvis Presley records and/or memorabilia.
