Description

You have the opportunity to bid on this fantastic example of Elvis' debut album, simply titled "ELVIS PRESLEY" (LPM-1254), released in 1956 on the RCA Victor label. This album is the first in a gradual listing of my Elvis Presley record collection, which I began putting together shortly after The King's untimely demise in 1977. My collection is quite vast and I have always strived for the best quality that I could find, upgrading inferior examples along the way. I am missing only TWO very rare LP's, "Elvis' Gold Records, Vol. 4" and "Speedway" Monaural issues! I plan to list primarily 1968 and earlier material, which is the most popular amongst collectors.

This particular album is the earliest pressing as the sixth track on Side 1 ("Just Because") is credited to "P.D." (Public Domain) instead of the actual song writers, Bob Shelton, Joe Shelton & Sid Robin. The matrix numbers are (Side 1): G2 PP1282-3S and (Side 2): G2 PP1283-1S. The vinyl remains very glossy, although there are some surface scratches and hairlines from being pulled from the "onion skin" inner sleeve. These have absolutely no affect on the sound quality! I have played both sides of this album in its entirety and it sounded fantastic! Definitely no skips or repeats or annoying "ticks". The labels are very clean with light spindle marks visible, though not hindering the eye-appeal. I believe that the record deserves the "Excellent" grading over VG+ for the fact that it plays so well and exhibits so much original sheen through the minor surface marks. The cover is the earliest example (perfectly matched to the vinyl!), with the lightest of pink in the "ELVIS". This cover remains very clean for an item of 56 years of age, showing minimal shelf wear. There are some light contact rubs from other LP's, a minor seam break at the lower center portion and about a 3/4" split at the upper seam toward the open end. The grease smudge on the upper portion of the back actually appears worse in the picture than in person. It appears that this was caused by a thumb with potato chip grease on it. The spine lettering remains very legible. Again, I believe that this cover deserves the "Excellent" grading description as it is superior to the majority of VG+ examples I see out there. See the photos for multiple views of this cover and the record to judge for yourself.

This album will come with its original "onion skin" Inner Sleeve (has tear along one seam) along with a plain white sleeve and shipped with the record separated from the cover to prevent seam splits from the record sliding around during transit.
