Description
Soundtrack 45 EP from the 1958 Elvis Presley movie King Creole Vol. 2 still in loose baggy. Previous owner slipped the cover out of the baggy and wrote a name at the top of the back slick. She also added a # tag to the side one label. Then she slipped the baggy back over the cover. I wish more record buyers would have kept the covers in the baggies.

With its growlingly aggressive Leiber-Stoller title track, the first EP from the movie sold a very respectable 500,000 copies (the same as the first Loving You EP). At the same time, the idea of releasing a single and two EPs in quick succession, with no LP initially planned, seemed to reflect Colonel Parker’s misgivings about the musical mix, which, with its emphasis on a heavily brass-influenced New Orleans sound, he felt tended to overshadow Elvis’ voice. On the other hand, it may just have been a negotiating ploy in his ongoing skirmishes with RCA.
The second movie EP led with an even more growlingly aggressive Leiber-Stoller lead track, this one modeled on Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man.” It sold as well as the first, perhaps bearing out the Colonel’s strategy.
