This auction is for a harder to find and very collectable 45rpm record from the earliest days of Rock-N-Roll. The artist is Elvis Presley and the record is his 1955 Sun Records #223 release of Mystery Train / I Forgot To Remember To Forget.
The record does have visible scratches,and the vinyl looks a bit rough cosmetically. However both songs play without skipping. There is some surface noise,but actually there is not as many pops and hisses as there would be on a more contemporary record.The thicker vinyl of these older records actually help them play better!! You can still listen to and enjoy the songs on your turntable. The records yellow Sun label is in overall good shape. There are no rips or tears, and no writing or doodles on the label.There is some slight fading and a few blemishes,but its pretty good for being 58 yrs old and not being stored as a collectable over most of its years!! Everything I know about this record,and also what I have read about it has me believing it is an original 1955 Sun release and not a later reprint. On one side it has the numbers 45-u - 157 x 20 It also has the triangle inprint with the numbers 5499 that shows it was pressed in the California plant and is not known to have push marks. On the other side of the record it has the triangle 5498 and 45-u-156 x 20 The label has the song titles with songwriter credits in smaller print. Then the artist, Elvis Presely and under that it says Scotty and Bill then the numbers 223.
This is not a common 45 and its a must have item for any true Elvis fan. Elvis only realeased 5 45 rpm singles on the Sun label. This was before he was a national rock-n-roll sensation,before Ed Sullivan, and before his first full length album!! It also will be loved and appreciated by any fan and collector of early rock & roll memoribilia and records. This record really belongs framed and up on your wall,or in a protective display case!! However as I said earlier you can play it if you choose!! You do not see one of these rare singles every day,so be sure to bid so it will not get away!!
