Elvis Presley, No 2, ORIGINAL 1957 UK HMV LP, CLP 1105
Elvis Presley, Rock 'n' Roll, No 2.
1957 UK pressed HMV Records mono LP, CLP 1105.Earliest issue with maroon and gold labels and 1N/2N matrix suffixes.
A nice and clean copy of this one. Hairline marks around the spindle areas indicates that LP has been played, but not to excess. There is no whitening or wear to the spindle areas. Vinyl surfaces are free of any immediately visible marks or scuffs. Closer inspection reveals a number of small and superficial hairlines, but for the most part these are sleeve removal type hairlines. There are certainly no deep scratches or gouges. Surfaces are clean and with a good gloss still. Playback is very good throughout. There are some instances of very low level crackle here and there, but this is always at a very low volume, and not continuous throughout the LP. There are no instances of audible ticks and clicks, continuous or otherwise, and there are no skips or jumps. Recording is still bright and crisp, and the LP has not been groove damaged. Both sides provide an enjoyable listening experience without background noise proving a distraction.
Labels are clean and undefaced both sides.
Sleeve has also survived in unusually clean condition. No marks or stains. Seams and backflaps have survived intact. None of the three closed spine areas have any splits or chipping. No tears or heavy creases. The slightest of wear and whitening to tips, including a neat and tiny seam split at bottom right corner, less than half an inch. Spine has survived in very clean, bright and unmarked condition, with centre text marred only by a tiny chip, otherwise perfectly legible and would grace any shelf. Laminate is intact with just a little tidy loss at entry side. Entry side is slightly feathered, but with just one ever so small closed tear to front centre. Feathering has not become unsightly and excessive. Ringwear to both front and rear is just about visible, but is to an absolute minimum.
Inner sleeve is original polylined "Made In England / Take Good Care Of Your Records" and in excellent condition.
In summary a really super issue, and about as clean as you could hope to find. A combination of age, fragility of sleeve and subsequent popularity of Elvis means that most extant copies of this LP surface in a very sorry state, with sleeves just about hanging together and vinyl surfaces a network of nasty scuffs and scratches.
This is not a mint issue, but is still a very strong issue with no major faults. Copies of this LP in this kind of condition rarely surface on the open market.
A modest reserve has been set to protect my initial investment in this LP, but it is not excessive, and well under what I would consider the current market value.
