Description
I am a 45 year collector of LPs and 45s. All of the LPs, 45s, and CDs I have listed on eBay are from my personal collection.
These two gatefold sets total 4 LPs in all and are German pressings on the Audifon label. These are bootleg LPs but it is clear from the sonic quality of all of them that they were taken from the RCA original master tapes. The sound quality is stunning... as good as any RCA-issued LP you will ever hear.
The label on these LPs say stereo but that is incorrect. They are mono, as everything should be from the original master tapes of the TV special. The TV special was filmed and recorded at a time when the music industry was switching from mono to stereo-only recording; however, Bones Howe, the producer of the music for the TV special was unable to requisition the proper stereo recording equipment. Therefore, the entire TV special was recorded in mono. No original master tapes of the music from the TV special exist in stereo. The LP from the TV special that was released by RCA in late November 1968 just prior to the TV special was in mono, these LPs are mono, and The '68 Comeback bootlegged LP I have for auction now on Ebay is mono.
Elvis' 1968 television special is regarded as the finest rock n' roll performance ever broadcast by any medium. It launched Elvis' comeback from the oblivion his movies and their soundtrack LPs had put him in throughout most of the 1960s. These LPs contain what is regarded by most Elvis fans (and music critics) as the finest musical portions of the TV special and are considered one of Elvis' finest live performances.... most fans would say his finest. This is Elvis reaching back to his finest material from his early days as a rocker in the 1950s and his performances are raw rock n' roll as only Elvis could perform. This material from these 4 sessions cannot be found on vinyl anywhere else.
I purchased these LPs about 20 years ago. They were sealed when I purchased them and I have played only a few tracks on each set once. The vinyl is mint... as new. The record and jacket have been stored in polyethylene sleeves in my collection for the last 20 years. The LPs are unmarked and flawless as are the gatefold jackets. The jacket containing the Volume 1 LPs is mint; however, I would grade the jacket of Volume 2 as M- due to some light creases in the lower left corner of the front panel. See the photos.
