Elvis' 10-inch 33.3 rpm 2-songs Mono Acetate. As the photo shows, it is on the RCA Reference Recording, black and white label. It is a two-sided acetate. The metal and vinyl covering is very rigid.
Acetates of any artists are rare, but being Elvis makes it super rare. This is from the 60's. No date on the label. I beleive both songs were released in 1962 on an album.
Acetates were made for test recordings and or reference recordings. Usually there might be a least six acetates of the same song, maybe less. There is a fine coating of wax on a metal disc. This particular record does have some slight surface scratches due to the age. It comes in a protective sleeve. Acetates are certainly amongst the rarest records in the world.
Elvis usually listened to these test recordings and made a decision on whether he like the recording or not. Sometimes he would throw them away, especially if he did not like the recording. Sometimes one of his entourage would retrieve the record. Reference recordings were usually property of RCA records or Elvis & The Colonel.
Label states: RCA Victor. RCA logo. Reference Recording. Speed: 33.3; No. KO 2:13; "Barcarolle"; Paramount - Elvis Presley; Mono. Other side states: Speed: 33.3; No. JO 3:18; "Whistlin' Blues"; Paramount - Elvis Presley; Mono. The grooves are around the outer edge of each side of this rare acetate. Please see photos.
NOTE: Elvis does not sing on either side. However, Elvis does hum and ahha very plainly with another group of singers on Barcarolle side. Both sides were used in background music to an Elvis movie.
The vinyl has some surface scratches, but does not effect songs. After all, it is over 40 years old. Still has a sheen to it.
