I am a 40+ year collector of LPs and 45s. All of the LPs, 45s, and CDs I have listed on eBay are from my personal collection.
This is a 5 LP box set titled Elvis Presley That's The Way It Is. This is a limited edition box set pressed on vinyl only in the UK to mark the 30th Anniversary of Elvis' landmark performance at the International Hotel in Las Vegas in August 1970.
The studio sessions leading up to this historic performance were held on June 4 - 8, 1970 at RCA's Nashville studio. Elvis recorded 34 tracks over those five days and these tracks became three of Elvis' finest LPs of the 1970s; That's The Way It Is, Elvis Country, and Love Letters. Rehearsals for the August concert were held throughout July 1970 at MGM's stage studio in Culver City, CA and at the International Hotel's Convention Center during the first few days of August. The live performances at the International were August 10 - 13. MGM made a documentary movie out of the August live performances titled Elvis That's The Way It Is.
This set contains the original studio recordings that became the LP That's The Way It Is as well as some tracks from the other two LPs that were part of the June studio sessions. It also contains 45 previously unreleased recordings from the July rehearsal sessions and the August 10 - 13 live performances at the International. It is a superb collection of Elvis at the top of his music.
In my opinion, the studio sessions of June 4 - 8, 1970 comprise the last truly great studio recording sessions of Elvis' career. The 34 tracks Elvis laid down during those 5 days are superb. These sessions are right up there with the March and April 1960 Nashville sessions and the January and February 1969 Memphis sessions as Elvis finest work in the 60s and 70s. That is saying a lot.
The June studio recording sessions, the July rehearsals, and the August live performances at the International are Elvis at his best.
This 5 LP set was pressed and issued in 2000 only in the UK. It is sealed and in perfect condition. These sets were limited, are long out of print, and are now very rare. This set is still sealed. There is a minor tear in the shrink wrap near the upper center of the front of the set and a larger tear in the lower center of the front. There are no dings, marks, or crunched corners anywhere on the box. The shrink wrap tears were caused in shipping and I have stored the set in a protective sleeve since I acquired it. See the photos.
