Description
Here is my wonderful copy of the 1st album by Emerson Lake and Palmer. It was bought by me on release day at the brilliant Henry's records in Southampton and has therefore endured 44 years in my company! It has the correct 1st issue matrices and is, of course, on the classic pink version of the Island label. As I sit typing up this listing, I am listening to it for the first time in years and boy, does it sound good!
The front cover is clean with few creases but the outline of the record is apparent (see hi-res photos). The edges are pretty square with little scuffing. The reverse cover is cleaner and has my name (G.Floyd) in ink along the bottom left corner. We had a record thief at my uni who stole my Hendrix and Free collections soI took to marking the LP's I had with me! The spine is scuffed and only the top half of the letters is visible.
The vinyl is in exceptional condition and I was genuinly surprised at how it has survived the ravages of time (and me!). There is hardly a mark on it and it has a lovely, almost new sheen. It plays brilliantly from start to finish with hardly any surface noise, even between tracks.The dynamic range is superb. The lows are earth rumbling still (remember that low synth bit we couldn't believe at the time?) and the highs shine through. It still sounds really punchy which is a real feature of the production I always recall. The label is in superb condition with next to no spindle marks. There are no jumps or skips and the vinyl is as flat as a very flat thing (no warping for technical fans!).
