Description
Encore - RARE Vintage Designer LP Record Storage . This product was designed by two very well respected designers Frank Height and Frank Guille in the early 1970's. I purchased this item new I think probably from Table Decor in Bradford and it has been in constant use.It is included in the Design Council archive collection and was commended at the time of production. See screenshots in photos 2 & 3. This is the third of four sets of Encore storage I am listing and is in the best condition . The listing is for a standard 5 divisions of storage (so photo 1 is not of this piece but shows the set up). This item is flat pack and this set up can store 100 LPs, 20 in each division.
The vertical dividers are smoked perspex or similar material and the separators are a harder former of bright white plastic.Unfortunately there are design faults in that the original white plastic separators turn creamy yellow when exposed to sunlight and the perspex dividers are prone to compression cracking when divisions are overfilled. (A problem with expanding record collections). In this example the top separators have changed colour to only a small but noticeable extent (see photo 6 for comparison between top and base) but are broadly consistent in colour between the 5 separators -see photo 5. The perspex dividers have very minor compression cracks in one or two connecting holes but this has not caused any problem in daily use up to now. Photo 4 shows a typical example but I can confirm that the connecting hole still functions as intended and the perspex has not been glued.
This unit comes with 6 castors which slot into the bottom separators and allow reasonable moveability principally on hard floors. In practice i found that castors were not particularly useful on carpet and couldn't be used when stacking the storage.
Perfect examples of this sell for well in excess of £100, this one is offered at a bargain price due to its used condition. The item will be sent by courier or can be collected free of charge from South Bristol area
