Description
This is a fine original U.S. pressing copy of a double LP compilation of archival material from the vaults of the Houston-based International Artists label, released by the label in 1980. The record focuses on previously unreleased material: outtakes, demos, interviews, etc. The label is best known as the home of the 13th Floor Elevators, and unsurprisingly one side is devoted to them. Included are both sides of the single, "You're Gonna Miss Me," by Roky Erickson's pre-Elevators group the Spades, along with a couple of lovely acoustic duets by Erickson and Clementine Hall (then-spouse of the Elevators' electric jug player and main lyricist Tommy Hall) and a sadly bizarre excerpt from a late '70s radio interview with Erickson. The record's other sides feature outtakes and promo-only singles by Texas garage bands, a series of demos by experimental group the Red Krayola, who released two LPs on the label, and a side of blues tracks (the label released LPs by Lightnin' Hopkins and local bluesman Dave Allen, both of whom are represented). The gatefold jacket is close to pristine (M-). The inside of the gatefold includes a long interview with label founder and producer Lelan Rogers by British rock journalist Jon Savage (England’s Dreaming). The discs are clean, and play basically M- with occasional light surface noise (EX++).
I am in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
If you'd like to order multiple items, I'll happily combine them so that you won't have to pay multiple shipping charges.
