Erykah Badu Worldwide Underground (Ltd Purple Vinyl)
Description DetailsLimited Edition 1LP Purple Vinyl.
In 2022, record lovers can look forward to the Reissue of Erykah Badus "Worldwide Underground", namely to Deep Purple Vinyl.
The third studio album of the American singer, songwriter, R'n'B and Neo-Soul icon originally appeared on the 16th September 2003 at the Motown label.
The neo-soul plate is characterized by hip-hop and radio elements and is characterized by an unconventional musical structure and minimalist songwriting. In terms of content, it is dedicated to topics such as hip-hop culture, love, life in the ghetto and gang culture.
After the previous album "Mama's Gun" (2000), Badu initially had to struggle with a writer's block, which she finally overcame. However, the recordings for "Worldwide Underground" only took place in 2003. The production was mainly taken over by the Freakquency production group, which consisted of Badu, Rashad Smith, James Poyser and RC Williams.
Ten songs made it to the album, including the singles "Love of My Life", "Danger" and "Back in the Day (Puff)". There are also some guest appearances, for example from the rappers Dead Prez and Common as well as from the singers Queen Latifah, Bahamadia and Angie Stone.
"Worldwide Underground" was a great success: it came to third place on the US billboard charts. It was awarded gold by the Reciting Industry Association of America and has sold more than 600,000 times in the United States to date.
