GMM2012 - Thesedays everyone goes on and on about the Big Four of thrash metal but this termis actually disrespectful to another legendary band in the genre. Like the BigFour, Californian thrashers Exodus played a key role in heavy metal history andnot just because Kirk Hammett was one of the founding members before replacingDave Mustaine in Metallica. Despite numerous lineup changes, the materialspeaks for itself and the band’s 1984 debut Bonded by Blood is still very muchconsidered a classic in the genre. Next year will mark their fifth appearanceat Graspop and if last year’s set on the GMM main stage is anything to go by,these guys will definitely thrash it up.

Bondedby Blood is the debut album by the SanFrancisco thrash metal band Exodus. Although thealbum was completed in the summer of 1984, it was not released until 1985 dueto issues with Exodus and its record label. It is considered one of the mostinfluential thrash metal albums of alltime,[2] utilizing the solotrade-off method which would later become a staple of many thrash and death metal songs. It is alsothe only full length studio album of Exodus to feature PaulBaloff on vocals, though he was also on their 1982 Demo.
Theoriginal album cover art was an illustration of good and evil conjoined twininfants. For the 1989 reissue this cover was replaced with the band logo on ared and black image of a crowd. The album was remastered and re-issued byCentury Media in 1999 in Europe only, with two live tracks from its Combatre-release in 1989, featuring Steve Souza on vocals. Thisreissue from Century Media restored the original twin cover artwork.
In 2008,the album was rerecorded with the band's modern lineup as Letthere be Blood. Guitarist Gary Holt and drummer Tom Hunting are theonly band members to play on both the original and the remake.
