Description
Greetings to all of my children who are disciples in Thee Temple of Psychic Youth (no relation to the "paranormal" gang over at Penn State who exploit children for television ratings)! When I first learned that Mr. P-Orridge had taken a sabbatical from Throbbing Gristle to pursue the Psychic TV project in the early 1980's, I began collecting all of their material as it was released. Some may know that there was a conceit hatched in which 23 albums would be released on a monthly basis, each limited to no more than 5,000 copies. Each of the first nine albums was to contain a voucher and the assembly and submission of the vouchers from the first nine albums was required to obtain album number 10 in the series. I was unable to obtain the fifth album in the series, with the result that I have numbers 1 through 9, with the exception of number 5, and the vouchers associated with these items, which I simply left in the album jacket(s). Most of my collection has never seen a needle and those few discs that have been played were played less than ten times, if that. I have 19 Psychic TV discs available. In this sale, I am offering two of the rarest and most coveted: the original Jack the Tab 12" AND the "A Pagan Day" picture disc.
Jack the Tab has the words "Fun Force" inscribed in the dead groove of side A, along with DC 23 A.2. Side B has the words "Greedy Beat Syndicate Safe and Legal" inscribed, along with DC23 B3. Superman appears in the center of side A, holding the Psychic TV "cross" with the words: "Superman Tune in (Turn on the Acid House) To All the Young People" and the DC Comics logo followed by "RECORDS, Inc. 1988". Side B has the Superman "S" logo, the words "JACK THE TAB" and the DC Comics/Records logo as on side A. There is also a sticker covering most of the "JACK THE TAB" wording that says "Made in United Kingdom". The disc is in a plain paper white sleeve which, in turn, is in a plain white jacket with the center circle cut out. This is the real item, bought by me from the local record store when it was released, played less than ten times, and lovingly protected ever since. It's value derives from its illegal use of the Superman logo and the fact that it is reputedly the first disc ever to use the phrase "Acid House" in its packaging.
A Pagan Day (Pages from a Notebook) - 25 December 1984 is limited to 999 copies. Side One is on white vinyl and contains the track listings in red lettering, as well as the TOPY 003 catalogue number. Side Two is a picture disc with the face of a child thereon and contains no writing. It is offered with its original clear vinyl protective sleeve (which is how it was sold--it had no cardboard sleeve).
Jack the Tab alone has sold at auction for hundreds of dollars. A Pagan Day is selling at Amazon for $125.00 right now! I am offering Jack the Tab AND A Pagan Day both for $120.00, a sum far below the combined auction value of both.
I hope you will take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to obtain two of the rarest of the rare by this incredible and groundbreaking band. The profile of Psychic TV continues to rise with the release of the recent Genesis P-Orridge documentary chronicling his relationship with Lady Jaye, as well as by his recent appearance on the Science Channel show "Oddities". These records, unlike the stock market, have only appreciated in value over the years and, with the ongoing resurgence of interest in vinyl records, they will no doubt continue to be of desire to collectors for decades to come. Ownership of either of these discs would be considered a collector's coup--to own them BOTH is nothing short of outright conquest. Thee future stands before you; do not let it pass thee by.
