FAIRPORT CONVENTION "What We Did On Our Holidays" UK Pink Island
1969/UK/Island ILPS 9092….. here’s a nice original UK pressing of their rare 2nd lp. The laminated cover is in solid VG++ condition, there is light corner wear, a few small light creases on outer edges, there are a couple of creases on the rear top left corner that have laminate lifting, very light ring impression/wear top and bottom on front, very slight general storage wear, the cover looks sharp with no splits, writing or other issues. The thick heavy vinyl is in strong VG++ condition with only a few super light inaudible sleeve scuffs/scrtaches, there is a small area at the end of side two and into the run out groove where the vinyl looks slightly hazy due to the poly lined inner sleeve, the record plays clean with slight noise in the odd spot and plays with excellent fidelity! The textured labels are clean with only a handful of light spindle marks. A nice copy for your collection! Please check my auctions for other psych, prog, and rock lp’s, good luck and thanks for looking!

This is the second album release by Fairport Convention and was the first to feature Sandy Denny, whose "haunting, ethereal vocals gave Fairport a big boost", according to Allmusic's reviewer. The album also showed a move towards the folk rock for which they became noted, including tracks later to become perennial favourites such as "Fotheringay" and the song traditionally used to close live concerts, "Meet on the Ledge" Following the departure of Judy Dyble, the band conducted auditions for a replacement singer, and Sandy Denny became the obvious choice. Simon Nicol has said "it was a one horse race really...she stood out like a clean glass in a sink full of dirty dishes". The album has been described by author Richie Unterberger as "a near-ideal balance between imaginative reworkings of traditional folk songs ... quality covers of contemporary folk-rock singer-songwriters, some quite obscure ... and original folk-rock material by various members". Simon Nicol has cited the album as his favourite.

///GRADING///
MINT: as stated with no defects
M- OR NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean
EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much
VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition, I also play grade the records on high end equipment and will give an honest play grade as well as visual grade, considering the number of records I buy on line my grading is very conservative and fair.
