1971 "Penis" gatefold cover ~~ the legendary "LOVE IT TO DEATH" album ....

...................................................................

THIS IS the rare, thick gatefold from 1971 featuring the Alice Cooper 'thumb/penis' front cover that was quickly pulled from the retail market when sales of the classic album quickly soared into mass popularity and was on display at all the big retail outlets in the country!

...................................................................

Alice Cooper's 1971 recorded third album, Love It to Death, can be pinpointed as the release when everything began to come together for the band. Their first couple of albums (Pretties for You and Easy Action) were both largely psychedelic/acid rock affairs and bore little comparison to the band's eventual rip-roaring, teenage-anthem direction. The main reason for the quintet's change was that the eventually legendary producer Bob Ezrin was on board for the first time and helped the Coopers focus their songwriting and sound, while they also perfected their trashy, violent, and theatrical stage show and image. One of the band's most instantly identifiable anthems, "I'm Eighteen," was what made the album a hit, as well as another classic, "Is It My Body." But like Alice Cooper's other albums from the early '70s, it was an incredibly consistent listen from beginning to end. The garage rocker "Caught in a Dream" as well as the ass-kicking "Long Way to Go" and a pair of epics, the Doors-esque, trippy "Black Juju" and the ominous - eerie "Ballad of Dwight Fry" showed that Alice was easily in league with other high-energy Detroit bands of the era (MC5, Stooges).

  1. Caught in a Dream

  2. I'm Eighteen

  1. Long Way to Go

  1. Black Juju

  1. Is It My Body

  1. Hallowed Be My Name

  1. Second Coming

  1. Ballad of Dwight Fry

  1. Sun Arise

CONDITION: The cover: rated: M- STUNNING! You may NEVER see another original 1971 copy THIS CLEAN! This beauty does NOT have the wear and tear you always see on this black gatefold cover...seemingly improbable to ever turn up -so clean- 48 years down the road. NO DELETE MARKS, thick gatefold cover, flat & square with 4 sharp corners! Arguably the *BEST* Alice Cooper album ... full of freaky moves before they became just another rock band grabbing the glitter.  To recap: Overall, very solid gatefold, appears pretty much as clean as the day it was released 48 years past!

The vinyl: still shiny all over, visually rated: M- super clean STRAIGHT RECORDS first pressing before Warner Brothers swooped in and released the record on their WB imprint label...Alice Cooper never looked back.  ... both "STRAIGHT RECORDS" labels are spotless (see photos)

.                                                                                                           A cool addition to anyone's music library!
