It's got a complicated history; but Fields Of Nephilim's Fallen now returns for the first time after its 2002 first edition. At the time recording as The Nephilim, the band disowned it publicly, stating the tracks were demos and unfinished recordings assembled into an album without their approval, and titles assigned by the label rather than the band. Whether you view it as an unauthorised excavation or a legitimate document of the band's post-Elizium period depends on your position; it's been both condemned and defended by fans in roughly equal measure for 24 years. Now remastered from original source files, with a bonus disc of the Roskilde Festival 2000 set, we're still more than blown away by the shred-noisy gothic explosions heard on disc, including 'Thirst', 'Darkcell AD' and 'Hollow Doll'. Something of that studio-reverbed Beggars-era layering still haunts the sound, working just as well for Carl McCoy's clangorous chest voice.
