Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have acquired over the past 45 years or more. This is the earliest and original 1st UK pressing of Fleetwood Mac "Then Play On" 1969 on the earliest original Steamboat Reprise labels. This pressing being very very difficult to find a vinyl with good audio quality and is notorious for having pressing defects and the many quiet places during the play of this vinyl enhances any problems further. Please note, this is one of the best sounding copies that I have heard of this pressing. (There is just light interference only, noted in the description below.) Awesome Blues album. This is complete with the earliest 'Wide Spined' Garrod & Lofthouse printed gatefold cover in at least excellent plus condition. You will find it hard to find better in my opinion.  The audio is absolutely stunning through out, clear and very vibrant through out, no distortion and it is obvious to me that this vinyl has barely ever been played at all no more than a handful of plays in my personal opinion in fact I barely see on or two spider marks that's all! Unbelievably rare for a 46 year old vinyl! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint for the most part. Very minor static type ticks isolated pop heard in a couple of places but importantly no constant loud clicks or pops during the play of this vinyl. One of the most difficult Fleetwood Mac pressings to find in decent order in my opinion. 46 years old like this!
Note! These UK albums have unique track listings different from the US versions featuring an extra track  "One Sunny Day".

Hear for yourself in the player below. Actual recording from the vinyl.

Then Play On is the third studio album by blues rock band Fleetwood Mac, first released in September 1969.

It was the first of their original albums to feature Danny Kirwan and the last with Peter Green. Jeremy Spencer did not feature on the album apart from a couple of piano things.

The record, appearing after the group's sudden success in the pop charts, offered a broader stylistic range than the classic blues of the group's first two albums. The title is taken from Duke Orsino's opening line, "If music be the food of love, then play on," from William Shakespeare's comedy play Twelfth night.

This was the band's first release with Warner/Reprise after being lured away from Blue Horizon and a one-off with Immediate Records. Forty years on, Fleetwood Mac remain with Warner.

The album, which at its original UK release had an unusually long running time, has been released with four different song line-ups.

The original CD compiled all songs from the two US LP versions, both of which omitted tracks from the original UK version.

In August 2013, a remastered edition of the album was reissued on vinyl and CD, restoring its original 1969 UK track listing. This version reached No. 112 on the UK Albums chart.

The painting used for the cover of the album is "Domesticated Mural Painting", by the English artist Maxwell Armfield. It was featured in the February 1917 edition of The Countryside magazine, which states that the mural was originally designed for the dining room of a London mansion

The Vinyl

The playing surface looks absolutely stunning for 46 years old and lays perfectly flat on the turntable free on any warping. This is the thicker heavier and deeper grooved type of vinyl only found on the earliest pressings! On initial inspection, I can barely see a blemish at all. Only if looked at very carefully in strong light can possibly be seen light surface scuffs in a couple of places only. Importantly (no) scratches or marks that would cause any constant clicks or pops Any marks that could possibly be seen in strong light would be minor scuff type or sleeve removal only!

The Audio Quality

This is one of the best that I have heard of this pressing! I have played this through track for track at very loud volume on a top system two times prior to listing! I was so impressed with the audio quality, very rich and vibrant throughout (no) distortion  certainly (no) skips or jumps! I have heard a few copies of this album in the past and I know how hard it is to find a decent playable copy, due to the fact that there are so many very quiet places on this album. There is absolutely (no) signs of any groove ware or that this has been overplayed what so ever! Any interference to mention was in the form of light static type, minor crackle, ticks heard in one or two quiet places on side two to mention only but no loud constant clicks or pops.  Audio graded at least Excellent plus to near mint for the most part in my opinion!

Hear the complete album for yourself in the player above!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer. Please allow for light static tick, ticks or isolated pops that may be heard in one or two isolated places, but nothing consistent throughout the audio! Please remember that this vinyl is 46 years old and would have been played on a 46 years old system. Listen for yourself in the player above to evaluate for yourself. Probably one of the most difficult Fleetwood Mac pressings to find decent audio in my opinion!

This album has been laying dormant in a case for over 40 years and a build up of dirt and dust causes static ticks/ crackle. A constant cleaning before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and enhance the audio quality.

The Labels

These feature the original 1st issue Reprise Steamboat labels (only 1st issues) in superbe condition  I find it hard to just barely see two or three spider marks! This 46 year old vinyl has barely been played a handful of times in my personal opinion.

The record Sleeve

This is the original plain white poly lined sleeve no splits or tares still in superb condition. Original!

The Cover

This is the original 1st UK issue ''Garrod & Lofthouse'' printed un laminated gatefold cover!  (Normally seen in a terrible state! This cover is in exceptional condition. Please note only the earliest copies feature the wide spine. There are (no) splits or tares and amazingly clean and straight for a 46 year old cover.  All text can be read at the spine and amazingly this is square and straight! This cover has been stored in a case separated from the vinyl and sleeve for over 40 years or more, which has helped preserve this cover all of this time free from the usual ring ware and nasty rubbing ware! Any marks noted you have to look to notice them. Just very light and small rubbing at the edges and spine but you have to look hard to notice.  I can't see any nasty creases on the front or rear to mention, very minor on the inside to mention. This 46 year old cover has certainly stood the test of time. All text is readable in general this cover is exceptionally clean. This must grade at least better than excellent to excellent plus in my opinion,  You would find it hard to find this cover in better condition after 46 years in my opinion!
