Rarity: SURPRISINGLY RARE – This splendid 1969 compilation album by Fleetwood Mac with Eddie Boyd is, in my experience extremely hard to find like this – with an outstanding near mint vinyl and a highly presentable cover. Compilation albums are the definitive ‘player’s album’ and that’s probably why decent examples are so very hard to find. THIS IS A GENUINE FIRST UK PRESSING, FIRST ISSUE WITH THE ORIGINAL BLUE HORIZON LABEL AND FIRST ‘1’ MATRICES & ‘1’ MOTHERS ON AN IMPRESSIVE HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL. The high quality imagery, ORIGINAL COVER by the understated ‘Quality Stationery Limited’ is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Overall this is a great example of this timeless blues classic.

Audio Performance: THIS IS A DELIGHTFUL BLUE HORIZON HEAVY VINYL WHICH DELIVERS SUPERB AUTHENTIC BLUES AUDIO TO THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE STANDARDS OF QUALITY AND CLARITY THROUGHOUT. THERE IS THE BARE MINIMUM OF UNDERLYING SURFACE SOUND ON THE LEAD IN AND LINKING GROOVES BUT IT’S SO LITTLE IT’S HARDLY WORTH A MENTION. OVERALL IT APPROACHES PERFECTION IN TERMS OF AUDIO PERFORMANCE. THESE ARE MUSICIANS WHO SOUND AS THOUGH THEY ARE ENJOYING MAKING THE MUSIC AND IT IS A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO. AS REGULAR VISITORS TO MY LISTINGS WILL KNOW I ALWAYS SAY PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS SECTION AND THE GRADING IS BASED ENTIRELY ON MY PERSONAL OPINION AND AUDIO PERCEPTION BELONGS TO THE INDIVIDUAL. WITH VINYL CLARITY THERE IS ALWAYS LIGHT TRANSITIONAL SURFACE SOUND WHICH IS INEVITABLE FROM THIS MEDIUM, EVEN WHEN NEW, AND OCCASIONALLY A LITTLE LIGHT CRACKLE WHICH IS OFTEN STATIC; OR EVEN A RANDOM SOFT TICK - BUT THIS IS THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE – ONE OF THE BEST BLUES COMPILATION ALBUMS - RAW, REAL AND RESONANT.

The Pious Bird of Good Omen is a compilation album by Fleetwood Mac, released in 1969. It consisted of the first four UK singles and their B-sides, two tracks from the second album Mr. Wonderful, and two tracks by blues artist Eddie Boyd with backing by members of Fleetwood Mac. These two tracks came from Boyd's album 7936 South Rhodes.
The title of the album is a phrase found in the 1817 Gloss (marginal notes) to Samuel Taylor Coleridge's 1798 epic poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The phrase refers to the albatross killed in the poem. ("The ancient Mariner inhospitably killeth the pious bird of good omen.") Its use as an album title is a sly wink to the featuring of the band's number 1 UK hit "Albatross."
