Description
The great FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS' Melotone 78s are being offered this week. Her records exist in different configurations and sizes and in one case, there's an alternate of sorts. Not a different take, but an edited and unedited version of a recording that was a little too long for the disc. It somehow never occurred to Melotone to cut tighter grooves (Melotone was without a doubt the sloppiest studio in New York) so all copies that I've seen of THE BELL SONG from Delibes' Lakme have had the labels cut down, but they also issued it with the piano introduction cut to almost nothing. It's the edited version, a bad dub, that RCA issued on lp and CD. This is the uncut original. The reverse side, MUSICAL SNUFF BOX (Liadov) and LIKE A BIRD (words by Mme Jenkins) is the usual master. Disc E.
