In early 1970, a Japanese group called FLOWER TRAVELLIN’ BAND went to Canada. The first album “ANYWHERE” was released by Polydor Records and produced by Yuya Uchida.
FLOWER TRAVELLIN’ BAND Performed and became good friends with Canadian rock band ‘Light House’ in the Osaka Expo’70, and later moved to Toronto in December.
In 1971, the band signed with American Atlantic Records and Canadian GRT records released their second album “SATORI” in the U.S and Canada. They performed with Light House, Blues Project, EL&P and Doctor John and many others. The band has a hint of ethnic flavor with a melodic Asian rock twist. The single “SATORI PART2” charted at No.8 on the local Canadian charts.
In 1972, FLOWER TRAVELLIN’ BAND released “MADE IN JAPAN” by Warner Records. They performed a welcome home show in Japan at The Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
In 1973, they were billed to open for the Rolling Stones, but all concerts were cancelled because of visa problems. The fifth album “MAKE UP” was released by Warner Records.
After performed at Kyoto Maruyama Park Outdoor Music Stage, the band took a long break.
Eine Platte die, bis auf eine Ausnahme, Coverversionen von J.Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, J.Hendrix, Cream usw. enthielt.
Mehr durch ihr Cover als durch die Musik bekam diese Platte Aufmerksamkeit in den Medien.

Nach "Challenge" verließ Sängerin Remi Aso die Band und man nannte sich ab sofort Flower Travellin' Band
Erstes Album unter dem neuen Namen: "Anywhere"
Zwei Gemeinsamkeiten gibt es zum Vorgänger:
Auch auf Anywhere sind durchweg Coverversionen zu hören und auch auf Anywhere zeigen sich die Japaner gänzlich unbekleidet.
Musikalisch hatte sich die Band aber erheblich weiterentwickelt, wurde progressiver und die Titel wurden länger.
Auch wenn ich der Meinung bin "21st Century Schizoid Man" zu covern grenzt ja schon fast an Majestätsbeleidigung.
Diesen Titel kann man einfach nicht besser machen als Fripp & Co.

1971 veröffentlichten sie ihr wohl erfolgreichstes und bestes Album "Satori".
Ein psychedelisches Progmonster in fünf Teilen.
Elektrische Gitarren mit schweren Riffs sowie mit feinen flirrenden Eskapaden überall.
Das komplette Album wurde als Soundtrack für den Film "Deadly Outlaw" verwendet.

Auch die nächste Platte "Made in Japan" hat nichts an Power und Kraft verloren auch wenn sie recht verhalten beginnt.
Die Titel sind wieder mit max. 6min in ein radiotaugliches Format zurechtgestuzt worden.

1972 dann ihre einzige Livescheibe "Make up"
Hier zeigen die durchgeknallten Japaner nocheinmal so richtig was sie drauf haben. Das knapp 24 minütige "Hiroshima" (hat nichts mit dem gleichnamigen Song von Wishfull Thinking zu tun.) ist hierbei der unumstrittene Höhepunkt der LP.
