RARE WIDE SPINE

EXCELLENT PLUS PLUS VINYL!

This is a lovely, original copy of this very rare LP, with amazing vinyl that is in seldom played EXCELLENT PLUS condition. It is on the Solid Pink Island Label and the ONLY Island label, as this was never re-pressed!

The vinyl is in superb condition and just one look at the spindles shows very little in rub and there are no marks visible to the naked eye on the vinyl! The cover is very rare, as it is Wide Spine and must have been limited, as I have a second copy with normal spine in width and this is much more!  The cover is sound with just a couple of corner marks, from storage, but otherwise its colours are still vivid and crisp. There is small area of white, where a price sticker was removed on the front, but this is a lovely, solid, vibrant gate-fold sleeve, with Wide Spine.

It has the plain white inner sleeve, which is intact, and is poly-lined, with the warning in blue, about plastic!

The First Press Matrices are: Side One ILPS 9125 A//2  1/1 & Side Two ILPS 9125 B//2  1/1, being the First Press Stamps.

Fotheringay was a short-lived British folk rock group, formed in 1970 by singer Sandy Denny on her departure from Fairport Convention. The band drew its name from her 1968 composition “Fotheringay”, that originally appeared on the Fairport Convention’s first album in 1968, ‘’What We Did on Our Holidays’’, Denny's first of only four albums with the group. The Sandy Denny song was about Fotheringay Castle, in which Mary, Queen of Scots had been imprisoned.

Two former members of Eclection, Trevor Lucas and Gerry Conway, and two former members of Poet and the One Man Band, Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson, completed the line-up responsible for what was long assumed to be the quintet's only album.

This folk-based set included several Denny originals, notably "Nothing More", "The Sea" and "The Pond and The Stream", as well as versions of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Way I Feel" and Bob Dylan's "Too Much of Nothing". Though, during the year of its original release, the album featured in the UK's two music papers' Top 20 (Melody Maker and NME), it did not meet commercial expectations, and pressures on Denny to undertake a solo career — she was voted Britain's number 1 singer (two years consecutively) in Melody Maker's readers poll — increased. The album peaked at No. 18 in the UK Albums Chart.

This is their First self titled UK Album Release. The album is on the Pink Island Record Labels, with circled P date 1970 text.
