Four Horsemen "Canadada" LP issued by Griffin House (IPS 1004) in Canada, 1972. ****** Rec:m- / Cov:g ****** Probably the rarest sound poetry record LP from North America, the legendary "Canadada" by Four Horsemen. Issued in a very limited number of copies in 1972 by Griffin House. The Four Horsemen explode the word and the non-word to arrive at a new language, a new art charged with rhythmic excitement startling in its impact. "Canadada" is a unique esthetic exploration celebrating the tonal and emotional scope of vocal sound. Primitve power and sophisticated craftsmanship are fuse in a chanting, laughing, screaming, dance of man voice. Varying from concrete repetition of monotone syntax particles ("Matthew's Line", "Coffee Break", "Theme"), to trance-like drone chants ("Allegro 108", Monotony"), to what could remind a more primitive version of Intersystems sound installations ("Seasons" and especially "In The Middle Of A Blue Balloon"). The Four Horsemen are BP Nichol, Steve Mc Caffery, Paul Dutton and Rafael Barreto-Rivera. No surprise Henri Chopin was a huge fan of them! ******Liner notes in English. ****** The sleeve would be graded vg+++ if it was not for the scotch on the upper side and the front teared in the upper right side (see photo).
