THE FOUR TOPS

“4 TOPS ON BROADWAY”

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Tamla Motown Records, PROMOTIONAL, very first MONO press released by Tamla Motown Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1967 by Corporación De Radio De Chile S.A. Records (CRC Records), licensed from Motown Record Corporation, USA, catalog number MM-657-X, with hand etched matrix numbers MM-657-A AA in Side 1 and MM-657-B AA in Side 2, with traditional yellow/black Tamla Motown Records labels of the period, with “Tamla Motown” logo at top. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“ON BROADWAY” is the fifth album by The Four Tops, originally released in 1967 in USA, and we didn’t have to wait much because the same year it was released here in Chile, and like usual in that period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER, made of a single piece of a thin cardboard folded in the middle with two sheets of paper attached (partially glued at the mouth edge) to that cardboard for front and back cover, so 3 sides are open faking a gatefold cover and kept together for a plastic bag. Front cover keeps strictly the original US artwork, with Motown Records logo at the bottom edge in the middle of the tracklist, which’s written in Spanish only inside light blue “boxes” and the album title is written in English only. Back cover also keeps the original black and white artwork but with all the text written in Spanish, with album title in English only and tracklist written in Spanish, translated to English (except for songs which didn’t need translation), with full credits for songwriters, with Motown Records logo at the bottom and the name of the band in both bottom corners, with the text, in Spanish, “The Sound Of Young America”, at top edge. The original liner notes are translated to Spanish, but the name of the author, Jule Styne, is omitted. In labels all the text, album title and tracklist, is written in Spanish only, with full credits for songwriters and additional information about licenses. It’s interesting to see that in cover it’s the Motown Records logo but in labels we got the Tamla Motown Records logo!!! Both back cover and label in Side 1 have the silver squared Promotional stamp “MUESTRA SIN VALOR COMERCIAL” (SAMPLE WITHOUT COMMERCIAL VALUE). At top left corner of back cover is stamped the number “N° 1087”, I’m not sure if this number is there because this is a numbered copy or if it’s the catalog number of the radio station which originally owned this record. So, here you have the chance to get and own this classic album in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER and Spanish song titles, PROMOTIONAL and, maybe, numbered, a record almost never seen and maybe auctioned here in eBay by the very first time with PROMO STAMP. WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of R&B and Soul music of the ‘60’s and especially for all fans, lovers and collectors of The Four Tops!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great VG or VG+ condition both the front and back covers, clean, with some moderate wear in all edges, more evident in the mouth edge and corners, with some little rips and creases, especially evident at the bottom right corner, with faint age browning, almost impossible to notice, but evident in the album title at back cover, free of marks of any kind. The record is in strong VG+ or even EX- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many light scuffs, some hairlines and very soft small scratches hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great NM- or NM condition, clean and clear, with only minimal spindle hole wear. The sound is in strong VG+ or even EX- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant soft crackles and some occasional light clicks here and there, more evident in the beginning of each side and in the silent parts, which don’t cause major distraction from the great sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record, maybe not for the strictest Minty mind or audiophile, but with a complete and unmarked cover, with a record with a very nice look, almost immaculate labels and still great sound quality after more abut 57 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean press!!! And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE Tamla Motown Records labels, the PROMO SAMPLE STAMP and the number “1087”, which could indicate this is a numbered copy!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

______________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
