FOX MOVIETONE FOLLIES OF 1929
`In this musical comedy, a young man from Virginia who is heir to a wealthy estate falls in love with a girl who longs to be a Broadway star. He moves to New York to be with her but discovers that she's a lot more interested in her career than in settling down. Hoping to turn her gaze away from the Great White Way (and onto himself), he buys up controlling interest in the show in which she has just been cast -- and fires her. However, the young man first discovers unemployment makes her no more inclined to walk down the aisle with him, and besides, he now has the Actor's Equity to contend with. The cast includes John Breeden, Lola Lane, DeWitt Jennings, and Stepin Fetchit, and features the songs "The Breakaway," "Walking with Susie," and "The Varsity Drag." At this time, no prints of this film are known to exist. as countless Fox titles were lost in a catastrophic film storage facility fire and it appears that "Fox Movietone Follies of 1929" died a violent and rather final death in that celluloid inferno of 1937.`
Undated, apart from the title details, being 1929, 10" 78rpm release on Imperial, catalogue number 2098
2 tracks from the film -
- Walking With Susie - Eddie Lloyd and His Singing Boys
- Breakaway - Lou Gold's Dance Orchestra
`Bouncy` is the operative word for the `Walking..` track, with vocals extolling the virtues of Susie-based perambulation..Foxtrot description, with confident 4/4 time signature..
Breakaway, the band in full effect on this instrumental, tackling the Foxtrot, again, head-on, and there's even time at the end for some unbridled xylophone action, followed by what may well be a bassoon...

Play-tested before listing on eBay.
This record I have graded as being in Excellent- condition. Both sides play through with no jumping, skipping or any other audio horrors. There are the usual accumulation of minor hairline scratches and other surface marks, `clicks` and `pops` that any 78 of this vintage would gather over the passage of time. They are mainly visual and have no undue impact on playback, apart from low-level surface noise, again, common to any used 78, and which shouldn't spoil your authentic listening experience!
Perfectly acceptable, vintage playback copy.
Comes in a new white card sleeve.
The Imperial label is in good condition overall, one side is blemish-free (...Susie) and the other (Breakaway...) has some marking to the ink finish, but all details are still perfectly legible.Visually pleasing two tone purple and gold colourway.
The film may be gone forever, so they say, with only vague hopes of it ever surfacing again, but this record lives on...

Please see the description below of how Record Collector Magazine grades vinyl. This is the system that I use.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
As well as the above grades, Near Mint is often used as well; this is really for a record that appears new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them. For records which appear to fall between the accepted grades, + and - are also often added to the grading.
