“High Hopes with Jack Kennedy” was Frank Sinatra’s contribution to the 1960 election campaign of his old buddy, then-senator J.F. Kennedy. Acting in cahoots with Sam “Momo” Giancana, the infamous mob boss (plus God knows how many other shady characters), Frankie Blue Eyes worked to boost JFK’s campaign in and around Illinois, the key “swing” state in the 1960 election. This ultra-rare single was an important element in their campaign strategy. So effective was their joint push in the Cook County, IL that Sinatra and Giancana succeeded in persuading entire cemeteries and quite a few local morgues, crematoria and other necropolae to enthusiastically and with wild abandon vote for JFK J , thus securing his victory against Dick “you-won’t-have-poor-old-pitiful-me-to-kick-around-anymore” Nixon by a mere few thousand “passive” votes or so (call it, if you will,  a classic case of dead men voting). Ah, the joys and the pleasures of the American presidential politics…

Needless to say, since those heady days of Come-A-Lot, pillbox hats, pill overdoses and painkiller pills, the presidential election theft techniques have improved considerably and in just about every manner imaginable.  On the other hand, if Nixon had won in 1960, we would have had Watergate in, oh, probably 1963 or so, followed by his impeachment in roughly 1964, meaning:  no Vietnam war,  no Oil Crisis of 1973, no Jelly Bean Gipper,  no Papa Bush,  no Baby Shrubs, no HillyBilly, no trickle-downers and no Donald Trump, and so today we would probably have Megan Fox in the White House in lieu of The Inevitable Candidate.

Well, gee, Frankie Boy,  you really, really screwed up royally. Pass that pitchfork and charcoal, please…and turn that fire & brimstone levels three notches up,  subito...you are not well done until you are all nice, red and crispy!

The rare single you are looking at here is, then, a part of those long-gone days.   Not only is this rare single a piece of American music history, it is a piece of history, period. Ultimately, Sinatra and Kennedy would become “strangers in the night”, their partnership unraveling even before JFK’s untimely death. But for one brief shining moment in time, they made, um…some serious music together.
