I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a great record from 1972. IT'S JUST ONE OF HIS BEST LP'S----- It's an amazing copy of THE GRAND WAZOO. It's an incredible masterwork of art that is entirely instrumental. Like HOT RATS from 1969 and WAKA/JAWAKA from earlier in '72, Zappa turns his attention to serious music. Orchestra Moderne... And at the time he used the latest technology, a 16 track recorder to accomplish this LP. It's an Avant Jazz that takes from Free and Acid Jazz as well as Standard Jazz. He whisks you in and out of themes like a great film, and like his guitar work, always stays lyrical. The epic liner notes on the inside of the gatefold are worth the price of admission themselves. It is " The legend of Cleetus Awrightus & The Grand Wazoo". The music was never meant to play live, and there was no specific tour for this LP for two reasons. 1) It wasn't possible at the time for Frank to travel a huge band that would be needed for this, and 2) Some A-hole pushed Frank off the stage at a show in London earlier that year, and Frank was confined to a wheelchair, making a tour more than difficult. It was these LP's that showed off Franks musical bravado and total maestroness....
The vinyl is in incredibly in great condition. The cover and gatefold are perfect, as is the spine and seams. The LABLES are perfect, with no issues or signs of spindle wear. This is of course the ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING on the BLUE BIZARRE LABEL, only pressed in 1972. It sounds awesome, and is a great ZAPPA LP.
This is a keeper of a copy. Let's face it, Zappa LPs didn't sell well, but were incredible. Finding these in such great shape close to 50 years after release is a great find. I am a big Zappa aficionado, and I grab great Zappa LPs all the time, even though I own them all, and then some. He was a treasure of an artist, who was able to march to the beat of his own drum. He was making music that both amused him, and that challenged him. He wasn't making music to sell records or get rich. These LPs are works of art that I hope someone will be turned onto as I was in the mid 70's when Zappa became the most important musical influence in my life.
I love original original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.
