FREDDIE HUBBARD “Open Sesame” Blue Note 4040, P, RVG, DG, LAM, Mono Vinyl
This is the first edition, 1960, “RVG” stamped, Laminated Cover, Deep Groove, “P” pressing of FREDDIE HUBBARD’s “Open Sesame” on the "47 West 63rd“ labels of Blue Note BLP 4040. Musicians include Freddie Hubbard, Tina Brooks, McCoy Tyner, Sam Jones, Clifford Jarvis.
VINYL plays with low to medium level surface noise (i.e, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments) with occasional ticks or pops, but the instruments are very dynamic, clear and strong with clean transients, solid bass frequencies and full tone. No distortion. No skips. Dozen or so hairline marks, one 1” feelable spanning “But Beautiful” and “Gypsy Blue” which creates, loud briefly repeating tick Side 1, end of #2. Both sides have excellent gloss. See photos. As with all first pressing Blue Note discs, the powerfully recorded and performed music overcomes imperfections. The Deep Groove “"47 West 63rd“ labels are clean with spindle marks. See photos.
LAMINATED COVER is in good shape, peeling on all borders. Corners very worn. Spine and seams worn and cracking. Lower seam taped. 2” and 1/2” splits on top seam. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23” back jacket shows aging, stains, wear. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
