Freedom's Children: "Astra" 1970, South Africa/Parlophone PCSJ (D) 12066. Disc is in beautiful EX to M- shape, a few scant hairlines on each side, I think this will prove impossible to upgrade! The labels show a few spindle marks, if not for these I would guess this disc was never played. Sound quality is a bit flawed with some mild fuzziness but I think they are all like this. Gatefold cover has no splits, there are some little creases, but the main problem is the lamination... a large area along the spine on the front side has been torn away, leaving a "rough" area in the artwork. I realize that missing lamination won't bother some collectors very much, but it bugs me a lot... I'm grading this cover Fair. Has the rubbery clear poly sleeve it was issued with. Top worldwide prog monster up for grabs this week; their masterful second LP with incredibly dark psychedelic imagery in the music, the lyrics and in the amazing cover art... this album really has the whole package and its fame has spread across the planet even if it never was exported from South Africa at the time. One of my all-time faves, if you don't know it you should get on board as it will change your perceptions about the supposed ambition of a lot of progressive music. While the original Freedoms Children LPs are so rare that only a handful of collectors will ever own them, their music can be heard.
